There was a peaceful, blooming country surrounded by a colourful variety of flowers. The gentle king and queen gave birth to a prince named Florence.
It was essential that the prince should find a bride soon. In a bid to rush the situation, the servant Broto was sent to accompany the prince on a journey to find his ideal bride.
Broto | What do you plan to do? |
Florence | I’ve heard that in the Eastern Kingdom, there lives a beautiful princess. Let’s try going there! |
??? | ——! |
Florence | Oh? What happened to that young boy over there? |
??? | ——. |
Florence | That’s no good, He got caught in the animal trap! Hang on.... |
Here, you should be fine now. It seems you only got a small scratch, thankfully.
??? | ...Who are you? |
Florence | I’m the prince of the Floral Kingdom, Florence. Your eyes are beautiful! They sparkle like the fresh young leaves in May! |
??? | What’s with this weirdo? |
Broto | He’s always like this, so if you could please pay him no mind.... |
Florence | Young man, what is your name? |
Rose | ...Rose. |
Florence | A lovely name! I, too, like roses! |
Rose | ...... |
Florence | Well then, it'll get dark soon. You should hurry on home. |
Rose | Where are you two going? |
Florence | I’m on a journey to search for a bride. We’re heading to the Eastern Kingdom to meet the Princess. |
Rose | I'll take you there. |
Florence | Really? |
Rose | You helped me, so I’ll repay the favor. |
Florence | You have a strong sense of duty. Thank you for your help. |
Oh right, this trap is dangerous, so we should move it. I wouldn’t want a poor little bird to get caught in it....
Uwah, a bug—! Broto! | |
Broto | Yes, Your Highness.... |
Rose | ...... |
During his journey, Florence saved an injured young boy stuck in a hunter’s trap named Rose.
In order to repay him for his help, Rose joined them on their journey.
And so, Florence finally arrived at the Eastern Kingdom’s castle to ask for the Princess’ hand in marriage, who was rumoured to have unparalleled beauty.
Florence | The Eastern Kingdom’s castle is pretty big.... |
??? | Well, not bigger than mine, of course. |
Florence | ...You are? |
Linkle | The second prince of the Stellar Kingdom, Linkle. |
Florence | Really? I’m the Floral Kingdom’s— |
Linkle | Ah, don’t bother. I won’t remember your name anyway. |
Florence | Is that so? Well, it won’t be a problem, because just one look at my beautiful face makes me unforgettable! |
Linkle | ...... |
??? | What a terribly vain prince you are. |
Florence | And you are? |
Shine | The first prince of the Lunar Kingdom, Shine. |
Florence | Nice to meet you! I’m Florence from the Floral Kingdom. |
??? | That puny country out in the middle of nowhere? No wonder your head is full of flowers. |
Florence | The radiant color of your hair and cloak...you must be the Sun, then? |
Sunny | That’s right! I’m the Solar Prince. Name’s Sunny. You’d do well to remember it. |
Rose | ...All the princes are weirdos. |
Broto | I agree. |
Eastern King | Thank you, everyone, for coming all this way. We apologize—due to certain circumstances, the Princess will not be able to appear. |
Linkle | What? |
Shine | What do you mean? |
Florence | Maybe the Princess is shy? |
Sunny | Is this supposed to be an official meeting between kingdoms? |
Eastern King | I’m very sorry. The other day, an evil witch came to our castle and put a curse on the Princess. She will not be able to show herself as long as the curse remains. |
Linkle | That's.... |
Florence | What a shame...it’s certainly discouraging. |
Eastern King | I am considering giving the Princess’ hand in marriage to the person who is able to lift the curse. |
Florence | Wha— |
Sunny | I see. I should get started right away. |
Linkle | I’ll show you, I can definitely lift the Princess’ curse. |
Shine | I can’t let the Princess of a kingdom as big as the Eastern Kingdom fall into the hands of another.... |
Florence | I must save the Princess, no matter what! |
Rose | ...... |
Florence went to the Eastern Kingdom to ask for the Princess’ hand in marriage, only to find that the Stellar Prince, the Solar Prince, and the Lunar Prince were also in the castle seeking to court the Princess.
According to the king, the Princess had a curse placed upon her. Only the person who could break the curse could marry her.
And so, Florence decided to go in search of a way to break the Princess’ curse.
Broto | Do you have a plan in mind? |
Florence | Not really. |
Broto | ...Sigh. |
Rose | I’ve heard there’s a Moondrop in the Lunar Kingdom. If you drink it, it will grant you your wish. |
Florence | Really? That’s good to hear! Let’s go search for it! |
Rose | I’ll show you the way. |
Florence | Is that okay? If you have other things to attend to— |
Rose | I’ve come too far to turn back now. |
Florence | Thank you! You’re a good person! |
Rose | ...... |
Florence | That’s right, would you like to become my servant? |
Rose | Rejected. |
Broto | A wise choice. |
The party departed from the castle, without a goal in mind.
At Rose’s suggestion, they went to the Lunar Kingdom in search of the Moondrop that would grant the wish of anyone who drank it.
Shine | Are you looking for the Moondrop? If you are, that road will get you there sooner. |
Florence | Really? Thank you! |
Rose | Wait! Aren’t you also looking for the Moondrop? |
Shine | I already got it. |
Rose | ...... |
Florence | Alright then, let’s hurry! |
Rose | Ah, wait—! |
Shine | ...Good luck. |
After covering a decent stretch of land, the Moondrop was nowhere to be found....
Florence | Huh? Is there really a Moondrop here? |
Rose | ...We’ve been tricked. The Lunar Prince already beat us to it. |
Broto | Seems like he was stalling for time by sending us on a detour. |
Florence | What? Really? |
Rose | You’re too easy to trick. |
Florence | Are there really people out there who would trick this beautiful face? |
Rose | ...... |
Broto | ...There are, Your Highness. |
Rose | It can’t be helped. Let’s aim for another one. It seems that, in the Solar Kingdom, there’s a Sunstone that can grant wishes. |
Florence | Alright, next is the Solar Kingdom. |
By the way, why are you helping us this much?
Rose | T-That’s because.... |
Florence | Oh, I get it! You must also be looking for a bride, too! Are you intending to ask for the Princess’ hand in marriage? |
Rose | That’s kind of foolish, isn’t it? Why would I want to marry someone I’ve never met? I’m not like you. |
Florence | Really? I like beautiful things, so I think I’ll definitely be able to love a beautiful princess. But I am the most beautiful, so of course, I love myself the most! |
Rose | ...... |
Broto | Let’s hurry on ahead. |
Rose | Agreed. |
First, the party went to the Lunar Kingdom in search of a Moondrop that would grant the wish of the one who drank it.
Along the way, Florence was deceived by the words of Shine, his rival in love, and was successfully outwitted.
Despite Broto’s exasperation and Rose’s frustration, they decided to head towards the Solar Kingdom in hopes of finding the wish-granting Sunstone.
Sunny | Hey, this land belongs to the royal family. What are you doing, entering as you please? |
Florence | We came to look for the Sunstone. |
Sunny | The Sunstone? That’s just a ridiculous superstition. |
Florence | But we need to break the Princess’ curse.... |
Sunny | You don’t have to worry about that, for I have found some highly skilled wizards to break the curse. |
Rose | We won’t know if the Sunstone is a superstition or not unless we look for it. |
Sunny | The one who will free the Princess from her curse is me. You guys should just go on back to your flower garden. |
Florence | If that’s the case, let’s head back then. As long as the Princess’ curse can be broken. |
Rose | Why are you accepting it so easily? Don’t you want to marry the Princess? |
Florence | I do...but as long as the Princess’ curse will be broken, then it’s fine that way. |
Rose | —Have it your way! |
Florence | Ah, Rose—. |
Broto | You upset him.... |
Florence | Yeah...guess I’ll properly look for the Sunstone, too. It could make a good present for the Princess. |
Sunny | I’m telling you, there’s no such thing. |
Florence | It’s as Rose said, if we don’t look for it we’ll never know for sure. We won’t trouble you anymore, so could you please allow us to look for it? |
Sunny | Denied. |
Florence | That’s.... |
Broto | Your Highness, it’s no use talking to him. If we keep looking in secret.... |
Florence | We can’t do that. This is his kingdom, after all. |
Sunny | How are you planning to search in this place full of rocks, anyway? You’ll become old and wrinkled in the time it would take to check each one. |
Like here, look at this. This one and this one, too. All normal—
Florence | Uwah?! |
Broto | So bright—! |
Sunny | This is— |
Florence | Could it be...the Sunstone? |
Broto | But it got smashed to pieces because Prince Sunny threw it away.... |
Florence | Whaaaa?! |
Sunny | ...So it really does exist. |
Florence | Sigh...after all that trouble to find it. |
Sunny | A-Ahem! I don’t know anything! |
Florence | ...... |
Broto | Oh, dear.... |
Rose | See, that’s what you get for accompanying someone so stupidly honest. |
Florence | ...Well, it’s good if the wizards Sunny found can break the Princess’ curse. |
Rose | You’re hopelessly good-natured. |
Broto | So then, what do you plan to do next? Should we try looking for a bride elsewhere? |
Florence | Maybe.... |
Rose | ...I think there’s a strange Stardust in the Stellar Kingdom that, when scattered over the land, can grant wishes. |
Florence | Really? |
Rose | I’ll show you the way. |
Florence | You’ll join us again? |
Rose | I’ve come too far to turn back now. |
Florence | Thank you, Rose! You are a young man whose heart is as beautiful as his eyes! |
Rose | Stop that, it’s embarrassing...! Make sure you don’t mess up this time. |
Florence | I’ll try my best. |
The party searched for the wish-granting Sunstone. However, Sunny got in their way, and the Sunstone was smashed to pieces.
As Florence was about to give up, Rose told him of a strange Stardust in the Stellar Kingdom that would grant wishes upon scattering it over the ground. Florence accepted his guidance once again.
Florence | It’s here! We were actually able to get the Stardust! |
Rose | Finally.... |
Linkle | Hey...if it’s not too much, would you give me the Stardust...? |
Florence | Pardon? |
Rose | Huh? |
Linkle | The truth is...my mother is bedridden with an illness. She doesn’t have much time left. If I had the Stardust, I could save her.... |
Florence | Your mother is ill?! That’s horrible! Of course, take it quickly to your mother! |
Linkle | Thank you. I’m saved. |
Florence | Don’t worry about it. |
Linkle | Well then. Laters~! |
Rose | Hey, wait—! |
Broto | What a strange story. The second prince’s mother already passed away when he was young.... |
Florence | Huh? M-Maybe it’s a new mother.... |
Rose | Are you stupid? You just got tricked again! |
Florence | What?! But— |
Rose | Even though I told you not to mess up this time! |
Florence | Was it a lie, then...? Well, I guess that means his mother isn’t really ill. |
Rose | What are you looking so relieved about? |
Florence | Just thinking about his mother being ill made me tear up.... If it’s a lie, then that’s a good thing. |
Rose | You.... |
Florence | Sorry, Rose. Even though you went to the trouble of telling me about all these things. |
Rose | Goodness. |
Broto | What do you plan to do now, Your Highness? |
Florence | Guess I’ll have to give up. One of the other princes will break the Princess’ curse, then. |
Rose | —Idiot! Do you even care about the Princess?! |
Florence | ...Rose? |
Rose | You’re mistaken! Just go back home and grow flowers in your head by yourself! |
Florence | Ah— |
Broto | ...It’s really come to this, hasn’t it. |
Florence | Why was he so upset...? |
Broto | ...He’s got a lot of things to deal with. In any case, we should head back home. |
Florence | But, Rose... |
Broto | It’s pointless to chase after him, you don’t even know where he lives. |
Florence | ...... |
Florence decided that he had no choice but to give up on the Princess. Rose got angry, and they split up after an argument.
When asked what he would do by Broto, Florence was only concerned about Rose. The Princess was completely forgotten.
With a heavy heart, Florence returned to his kingdom.
Floral King | Welcome home, my dear son. |
Floral Queen | Oh, what happened? Why do you look so sad? |
Floral King | Were you unable to find a bride? |
Florence | Actually.... |
Florence told them about his journey to find a way to break the Princess’ curse.
Floral King | Our kingdom has a wish-granting legend too, you know. |
Florence | Really?! |
Floral King | It’s said there’s a flower called the Dreambud, which will grant the wish of anyone who drinks its nectar. Why don’t you go and look for it? |
Florence | Thank you, Father! |
Floral King | Good luck! |
Upon hearing the dejected Florence’s story, the King told him about the similar wish-granting legend of the Floral Kingdom:
The Dreambud, a flower which grants the wish of anyone who drinks its nectar. Florence immediately departed to find the flower.
Florence | It’s here! It’s here, Broto! |
Broto | I never thought it would be so close by. With this, we can break the curse of the— |
Florence | I wish that I can make up with Rose— |
Broto | ...What? |
Rose | Are you stupid?! |
Florence | Rose?! |
Rose | Stop that, what are you doing?! If you use the Dreambud for that, you won’t be able to break the Princess’ curse! |
Florence | But I wanted to make up with you, no matter what.... |
Broto | That being said, why are you here? |
Rose | T-That’s.... |
Florence | ...The power of the Dreambud! |
Rose | You haven’t even used it yet?! |
Florence | Oh, right. So then.... |
Broto | Could it be...that you were following us this whole time? |
Rose | E-Enough! Quickly, let’s go to the Eastern Kingdom! The King is calling for you. |
Upon getting the Dreambud, Florence was about to wish for his relationship with Rose to be mended.
But he was stopped by Rose, who had been secretly worried and following them the whole time.
Despite his frustration, Rose made up with Florence without needing to use the Dreambud and told him that the Eastern King was calling for him.
Florence | You called for me, Your Majesty? |
Eastern King | Ah, Prince Florence. You found a way to break the Princess’ curse, right? You are our very last hope. |
Florence | How can that be? Didn’t the other princes— |
Eastern King | Well, about that. All of the other princes failed.... |
The Moondrop the Lunar Prince brought was a fake. The wizards the Solar Prince brought were not strong enough to break the curse, so they gave up. And the Stardust the Stellar Prince brought had already granted a wish, so it was ineffective.
Florence | Huh.... |
Broto | Apparently, even though the Lunar Prince beat us to it, he was mistaken. |
Florence | But, the Stella Prince.... |
Broto | The Stardust must have lost its potency when he said he wanted to heal his mother, because it considered that to be his wish. |
Florence | I see.... |
Eastern King | If things continue like this, the Princess’ curse.... |
Florence | If that’s the case, please use this Dreambud! If you drink its nectar, it will grant you any wish. |
Eastern King | Oh! Then have the Princess drink from it at once! |
Princess, come here. | |
Rose | ...... |
Florence | ...What? |
When Rose drank the Dreambud’s nectar, the curse was lifted, and the young boy transformed back into a princess.
Eastern King | Thanks to you, Prince Florence, the Princess’ curse was lifted! You will now be her husband! |
Florence | Rose...? |
Rose | I told you, didn’t I? It’s foolish to want to marry someone I’ve never met. |
Florence | But then, you were the Princess all along?! |
Rose | The witch’s curse made me take on the appearance of a young boy. |
Broto | I see, so that’s how it was. |
Florence | You knew, Broto?! |
Broto | There aren’t many young boys named ‘Rose’ out there, are there? |
Florence | ...... |
Rose | Rose: It would be good for a vain, stupidly honest, and good-natured person like you to have a smart and clever wife like me. It can't be helped, so I’ll marry you. Be grateful! |
