Previous Main Story Next
ManagerIn that case, I shall contact the one who's teaching at a theatre school right now.
He's a busy person, though, so I don't know if I can get hold of him..
IzumiI'm counting on you!
IzumiSakuya-kun, your position is wrong.
SakuyaAh, sorry.
CitronDon't mind.
TsuzuruIt's all right, it's all right.
Izumi(We just started our actual practice, but I feel like everyone is taking it easy...)
MasumiRomeo comes on stage from the left.
SakuyaAh, sorry!
CitronDon't mind.
ItaruAh, I'm going to the bathroom for a bit.
TsuzuruHe'll play games for sure...
Izumi...
(...If this goes on, our debut performance may fail.)
Sakuya"Let's go on a journey together, Julius. Let's run out of this cramped town and travel around the world."
Izumi(I feel sorry to spoil this nice atmosphere, but I have to steel their——.)
???Hey, is this a kindergarten playground?
IzumiEh?
???I can't watch this anymore.
IzumiWho are you? This place is off limits to unauthorized personnel.
???Haaah? I should be the one asking——, hmm? Ahh, you must be Director's daughter! You've grown so much, huh!
IzumiDirector...
???Matsukawa——Ah, he's the manager now, came crying to me. He asked me to come and teach the new members a lesson!
IzumiThen, you're a member of the first generation——!?
???Yeah, I'm one of the first generation Spring Troupe's members, Yuzo Kashima.
MasumiHe's a yakuza by all appearances.
CitronOh, one of Japanese's specialities.
KamekichiYou're getting old, Yuzo.
YuzoOh, Kamekichi. It's been a while. Your tongue is as sharp as ever.
KamekichiIt's not as bad as you.
SakuyaIf Kamekichi also knows him, then he's really a member of the first generation Spring Troupe.
YuzoHey, let's get it started already. I'm your very first audience, so you should be grateful.
IzumiAll right then, let's start from the very beginning, guys.
SakuyaY-yes! I'll be in your care!
Yuzo...
IzumiHow is it?
Yuzo*sigh*, I wanted to get up and leave 300 times.
TsuzuruThat really sums up our level...
YuzoThat's right. Being forced to hear you reciting lines like that is just painful to the audience.
First, the foreigner.
CitronMe?
YuzoYou may only have five lines, but if you can't even get it right, then your level is worse than a toddler.
If you can't even say your lines properly, don't even think to strive for an acting career in Japan.
CitronOoh...
SakuyaDon't say something like that. Citron-san is an international student, so he's still learning Japanese. I'm sure if he practices more...
YuzoLines and Japanese are two different things. If you think like that, our audience may think differently. It'll ruin the whole thing.
Next is Mercutio. I get what you're trying to say, but you're just spinning your wheels. Are you not familiar with script?
TsuzuruI'm the playwright.
YuzoAh, that's why. You're just reciting the lines for yourself. You have to try communicating with the audience. It's not only for your own satisfaction.
TsuzuruWha——.
YuzoNext is Tybalt. I don't have anything to say to this guy.
ItaruEh?
YuzoIf you don't have any motivation to act, get off the stage. That's all.
Itaru...
YuzoNext, Julius.
Masumi...
YuzoI don't know what you're thinking about, but you're glancing at Director's daughter too much.
Your acting is not that great anyway, so stop showing off. Your acting is boring.
MasumiWhat?
Izumi(Even Masumi-kun...)
SakuyaEven Masumi-kun is not good...
TsuzuruHe's merciless...
YuzoYou think he'd pass? Don't underestimate acting, amateurs.
Lastly, the protagonist Romeo.
SakuyaY-Yes!
YuzoYou got different problems. You don't even understand how to act on stage despite being the protagonist. Start over from the bottom.
Sakuya...
YuzoThat's all I have to say for now. I'll come and watch you again when I'm free.
Sakuya...
Tsuzuru...
Citron...
Itaru...
MasumiAnnoying...
Izumi(Everyone is completely depressed. Maybe he's going too far...)
YuzoAh, right——Hey, you.
IzumiYes?
Yuzo...Don't worry about that Romeo. I'm sure he'll improve.
IzumiEh?
YuzoBasically, whether he lives or dies is up to you. You hold the responsibility for making this whole situation, so do something about it.
Izumi——.
(That's right. Everyone is no good because I couldn't guide them properly——.)
——I have to buckle down and do my best.
YuzoThat's the spirit.
...I wish I could show Yukio-san how you are right now.
IzumiEh?
YuzoNothing.
IzumiDo you happen to know anything about my dad?
YuzoI can't say anything about that. Sorry.
Izumi...

Act 1
Episode 13: Original Spring Troupe Alumnus
Previous Main Story Next
ManagerI see. There’s a former Spring Troupe member who is currently a teacher at an acting school; should I try calling him?
He’s a busy person, so I don’t know when we can catch him, but...
IzumiPlease!
IzumiSakuya-kun, you’re standing in the wrong spot.
SakuyaAh, I’m sorry.
CitronDon’t mind it.
TsuzuruYou’re fine, you’re fine.
Izumi(We started rehearsal, but everyone seems a bit too laid back...)
MasumiRomeo appears from stage left.
SakuyaAh, sorry!
CitronDon’t my-mind it.
ItaruAh, I need to use the bathroom.
TsuzuruHe’s definitely playing games.
Izumi....
(...I need to do something about this. Or else we might not make it in time for the performance.)
Sakuya“Let’s go on a journey together, Julius. We’ll escape this cramped town and see the world together.”
Izumi(It hurts to spoil their good mood like this, but I need to make my heart stone cold and—)
???Oi oi, what am I watching? Some preschool play?
IzumiEh?
???I can’t watch any longer.
IzumiWho are you? Only involved parties are allowed in here.
???Aaah? Who the hell are you—wait, huh? Oh, I see, you’re the director’s daughter! That snot-nosed baby sure grew up!
IzumiDirector’s...
???Matsukawa—guess he’s the manager now—came crying to me, and asked me to beat the new troupe members into shape!
IzumiSo you’re the Original Spring Troupe member—!?
???Yeah. I’m Kashima Yuuzou, from the Original Spring Troupe.
MasumiNo matter how you look at it, he’s a yakuza.
CitronOh! One of Japan’s specialties!
KamekichiYuuzou, you sure got old.
YuuzouOh, Kamekichi. It’s been a while. You’ve got the same old foul mouth.
KamekichiIt’s not as foul as yours.
SakuyaHe knows Kamekichi too—he really is from the Original Spring Troupe.
YuuzouOi, hurry up and get started. I’ll be your first audience. Be grateful.
IzumiAll right, everyone, from the top then.
SakuyaY-yes! Please take care of us!
Yuuzou....
IzumiHow was it?
YuuzouSigh. I considered leaving at least 300 times.
TsuzuruSo, basically, at every line...
YuuzouYup. It’s just a pain for an audience member to have to listen to unbearable lines.
First. You, the foreigner over there.
CitronMe?
YuuzouYou only have five lines, and you can’t even handle those. You’re worse than a preschooler.
If you can’t read Japanese lines, don’t think you can stand on stage for a Japanese play in this country.
CitronOh....
SakuyaDon’t be so cruel. Citron-san is an exchange student; he’s still studying Japanese. If he keeps practicing, he should—...
YuuzouReciting lines and speaking Japanese are two different things. If the audience thinks “this foreigner is trying really hard to recite his Japanese lines,” that alone is enough to turn them away. It ruins the whole performance.
Next, Mercutio. I get what you’re trying to say, but you’re missing the mark. Do you have some kind of strong attachment to this script?
TsuzuruI wrote this script.
YuuzouAh, I see. So that’s why. You’re complacent. If you’re not thinking about the audience in front of you and making an effort to communicate with them, it’s nothing but self-satisfaction.
TsuzuruWh—.
YuuzouNext, Tybalt. I don’t have anything to say to this guy.
ItaruEh?
YuuzouIf you’re not gonna try, leave the stage now. That’s all.
Itaru....
YuuzouNext, Julius. You, huh.
Masumi....
YuuzouI don’t know what’s on your mind, but you need to stop stealing glances at the director’s daughter.
Your acting isn’t even good; don’t get cocky. Your acting is boring.
MasumiWhat?
Izumi(Even Masumi-kun was taken down...)
SakuyaEven Masumi-kun isn’t good enough...
TsuzuruNo mercy...
YuuzouDid you think this kid would be good enough to pass? Don’t take theater lightly, you brats.
Finally. The lead, Romeo.
SakuyaY-yes!
YuuzouOut of the question. You’re the lead, but you don’t know a thing about theater. Relearn everything from the beginning.
Sakuya....
YuuzouWell, that’s enough for now. I’ll drop by again if I have some time.
Sakuya....
Tsuzuru....
Citron....
Itaru....
MasumiAnnoying....
Izumi(Everyone’s feeling completely put out. Did we go too far...)
YuuzouOh, that’s right—hey, you.
IzumiYes?
Yuuzou...That Romeo has endless potential to improve.
IzumiEh?
YuuzouIn other words, it’s up to you whether you make or break his potential. Lemme just tell you, the state they’re in is your responsibility as the Director. Remember that well.
Izumi—.
(He’s right. Everyone was criticized and called out so harshly because I didn’t instruct them properly—.)
—I’ll pull myself together and do my best.
YuuzouYeah.
...I’d like to show Yukio-san what you’re like now.
IzumiEh?
YuuzouIt’s nothing.
IzumiDo you know something about father?
YuuzouI can’t tell you anything. My bad.
Izumi....
