The Genius Who’s Everywhere [1]
Backstage Stories*knock knock*
Azuma | Homare, are you there? |
Homare | Oh my, Azuma-san. Did you need something? |
Azuma | This was mixed in with my mail. |
Homare | Oh! Well, if it isn’t a written invitation to my class reunion! |
When I heard that it arrived at my parents’ home, I requested them to forward it here. Thank you, Azuma.
Azuma | A class reunion, sounds nice. Will you be going? |
Homare | Of course, I wanted to greet a former teacher of mine. I intend on going. |
But— Hrm, this… | |
Azuma | What’s the matter? |
Homare | When I saw the name of the event coordinator, I couldn’t recall their face. Well now, just who were they…? |
Azuma | Ah, you must have forgotten since it’s been a long time since you’ve graduated. |
In that case, why don’t you take another look at your yearbook?
Homare | Of course, why didn’t I think of that! |
Yuki | Azu-nee, thanks for taking me shopping. |
Azuma | Of course, I also had a little something I needed to buy. |
Yuki | We received all sorts of samples. Shopping with you really pays off. |
Azuma | Fufu, glad to hear it. |
Ah right, I recently bought some new face masks that were quite splendid. I’ll be sure to give you some.
Yuki | Alright, thanks. |
Kazunari | Ooh, is this Aririn? |
Homare | Indeed it is! |
Muku | Woah, it’s kind of strange to see Arisu-san wearing the same uniform as us. |
Yuki | What are you guys yammering about? |
Kazunari | Yukkii, Azu, WB~ |
Muku | Welcome back! |
Homare | You two have returned at just the right time! Just now, we’ve begun our meeting to trace back the history of Homare Arisugawa! |
Azuma | Hm? Is this your yearbook, by chance? |
Homare | Indeed. During my last visit to my parents’ home, I took the opportunity to bring it back with me. |
Kazunari | So, since Aririn was looking at it, we all decided to look at it together~ |
Muku | Arisu-san looks super cute in his uniform. |
Homare | How about it, Azuma-san, Yuki-kun? Please do take a look. Now featuring commentary by yours truly. |
Azuma | Fufu, seems interesting. Mind if I take a look? |
Yuki | I think I’ve seen this before. |
Kazunari | But I think it’ll be fun if you look at the yearbook again with us~! C’mon Yukkii, let’s look at it together! |
Yuki | …Guess I don’t have a choice. |
Homare | Now then, let us first take a look at this page. |
Muku | It's the personal introduction page! Um, Arisu-san is— |
Kazunari | Woah, Aririn’s easy to find! He totally stands out! |
Homare | My, to have found me so quickly... As I thought, it seems that my genius aura from this time cannot be hidden. |
Yuki | No, it’s just your hairdo. |
Azuma | Fufu, but he has such an innocent expression on his face. |
Kazunari | Okay, onto the next page! |
*page flip* | |
Woah, nice! Check out this chapel! It’s sooo emo! [2]
Azuma | That’s right, St. Flora was a mission school. |
Homare | Indeed it is. This chapel was my favorite. |
Muku | How nice. Even now it’s still famous for being a confession spot! |
In December, there’s a big Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the courtyard…
And after school, we would meet up in front of the tree!
Kazunari | The heck, that’s sick! That’s like the ultimate pinnacle of youth! |
Homare | Indeed, that ceremony was quite the spectacle. I would very much like to see it one more time. |
…..Which reminds me, the cafeteria’s custard pudding was very delicious. I would like to eat that once more.
Yuki | Huh, so they had that pudding during your time. |
Muku | I love that pudding too! But it sells out immediately. |
Homare | It was also popular while I was enrolled in school. If I recall correctly— |
*page flip* | |
Ah, here it is. | |
Muku | Oh, it’s a picture of Arisu-san eating pudding in the cafeteria! |
Azuma | Fufu, how cute. There’s also a Homare right here. |
Kazunari | Oh, here too. |
…...Now that I think about it, isn’t Aririn in all the pictures on this page?
Homare | Mm, you think so? |
Muku | It’s true…! Like in this photo of the flower beds, and in this photo of the atrium. |
Azuma | This page has a collection of photos on everyday life on campus. |
Kazunari | Hey! Airirin’s in this photo in the middle of worship too! |
Muku | You’re right, Arisu-san’s cut off at the edge! |
Yuki | Seriously, he’s everywhere. |
Kazunari | Maybe it’s harder to find a page that he isn’t in... |
*page flip* | |
Yuki | What about this choral festival photo? I don’t think Arisu’s class is in it. |
Azuma | Isn’t that Homare at the end? His face isn’t photographed, but you can see his hair. |
Kazunari | As I thought, he’s not in this photo of the relay race! |
Muku | No, he’s on the other side of the track looking at the camera! |
Yuki | Wasn’t he just going after the camera? |
Homare | Non non! It’s not that I go out of my way to get photographed, it’s the camera lens that captures me. |
This overflowing talented aura of mine draws cameras towards me. Dare I say, it’s sinful....
Muku | Hawawa…. Arisu-san’s aura is so amazing that it works on machines….! |
Azuma | That’s Homare for you. |
Kazunari | Aririn’s awesome! |
Yuki | You’ve got to be kidding me. |
Notes
- ↑ The story title contains the four kanji compound 神出鬼没, which can mean “to appear in unexpected places at unexpected times”, “elusive”, or “phantom”.
- ↑ He says the chapel is エモい, which is a slang term to describe something melancholic, emotional, or just anything that’s nice and aesthetically pleasing and makes you feel something. I couldn’t think up of a decent equivalent term in English slang, so I just went with “emo”.
