Yuki...
AzamiYuki-san, sorry to keep you wai...hm, are you gonna buy that fabric?
YukiNo, I'm just looking around today. I haven't thought about the next costume designs yet.
AzamiOh right, you're gonna participate in the Rose Festival. I heard that Itaru-san and Homare-san are also participating.
YukiYep. It's such a cute event, so I want to make the costumes cute as well.
Itaru won't shut up as usual though.
AzamiHeh, I'm looking forward to it.
YukiUm...
AzumaIt's rare to see you having troubles.
Yuki...It's just the costume designs for the Rose Festival.
AzumaA prince that's also a guide to convey the appeal of roses...was it? It seems right up your alley, Yuki.
YukiYou're right, but...how do you even make a rose motif look good in a costume?
I thought it wouldn't be a good idea to make them too cute, so I tried many different types of pattern designs, but none of them caught my eye.
AzumaSo that's why you were making such a troublesome face.
YukiI was going to draw the designs as soon as possible, but I never thought I'd have this much trouble with it.
AzumaRight...even when you think of roses, there are many different images of it.
How about asking everyone for their image of a rose?
Different people have different impressions of it so I think it might be helpful.
YukiI see...their image of a rose, huh. It might be good for reference.
Thanks for listening.
AzumaFufu, do your best.
OmiMy image of a rose?
YukiI'm gonna use it as reference for making costumes.
OmiI see...something beautiful, sweet, and gorgeous are what comes to mind when I think of roses.
TsuzuruWell, that's the usual approach, isn't it.
CitronFufufu...beautiful roses also have thorns, you know! That's why you should make the costumes have a lot of thorns!
TsuzuruNo, no matter how you look at it, that's not something that a prince would wear.
AzamiRather, it's kinda heavy metal or punk.
YukiRejected.
IzumiAdditionally, it also has a gentle scent, something like that?
CitronRose scent, how grown up~
AzamiRose is usually pink when it comes to makeup.
MukuBut there are so many colors and types of actual roses.
The meaning also depends on the amount of roses.
CitronMuku, you sure know a lot~ You're so well-malformed![1]
TsuzuruWell-informed, you mean!
MukuActually, I read a manga called "Rose on a Moonlit Night" recently and the heroine was talking about it.
OmiThere's a list of flower languages for roses on this site, too. It really has a lot of different meanings.
AzamiOne rose means "love at first sight", and three roses means...wait, don't make me read this stuff!
Masumi—108 roses means "marry me"... I'll go get them for you right now, Director.
IzumiYou don't have to buy it, okay?!
CitronOh, as expected of Masumi!
YukiWhere did you even come from?
TsuzuruYou're always showing up so unexpectedly.
Yuki...
(I've asked around for a lot of people's image of a rose since then, but I haven't been able to get a good sense of direction.)
Guy...
YukiEh, Guy?
GuyWhat a coincidence meeting you here, Rurikawa. Sakisaka isn't with you?
YukiMuku left school on his own to go buy a new book. Are you going shopping, too?
GuyYes. I'm also going to stop by the flower shop while I'm at it.
YukiFlower shop...
Can I go with you?
GuyCome to think of it, you're in the middle of making the costumes for the Rose Festival, right?
I don't mind, let's go together.
This is the rose section.
YukiHeh, there's quite a variety.
...
...As I thought, it's really beautiful.
GuyHm?
YukiI don't usually get the chance to look at real roses in detail like this, but when I look at them again, they're really gorgeous and beautiful.
GuyYou're right.
I think you can get a different kind of inspiration from the real thing, not from your imagination or photos.
YukiI see...
GuyAs for roses, I saw one growing in the courtyard of the dormitory. Let's see if Tsukioka can give them to you.
YukiYeah, thanks.
...
Izumi(Yuki-kun seems to be concentrating on designing. I'm glad to hear that he came up with an idea.)
(Ah, that's right. In that case...)
Yuki...Phew.
IzumiThanks for your hard work, Yuki-kun. Please have this if you'd like.
It's rosehip tea recommended by Homare-san. It's caffeineless, so it's okay to drink it at night.
YukiThanks.
IzumiEh, that rose is...
YukiAh...Tsumugi gave me this. I thought I'd get an idea of what it would be like if I saw it in person.
IzumiI see.
CHOICE 1: It has a nice scent. [+]
IzumiThat rose has a nice scent.
YukiThe scent of roses also has a relaxing effect.
IzumiI see. Perfumes and body creams often have a rose scent.
YukiYep. Thanks to that, I can proceed with the design work calmly.
Speaking of which, the director's opinion may have been surprisingly helpful.
IzumiI'm glad to hear that!
CHOICE 2: It's beautiful. [+]
IzumiIt really is beautiful.
YukiI thought the same thing when I took a closer look today.
Touching it is also a good reference for the texture of the petals.
IzumiAs expected of Yuki-kun, you even used the texture of the petals as reference! I wonder what kind of costumes it'll be.
YukiWell, look forward to it.
YukiThe costumes are finished. Try it on.
I had my doubts about many things, but in order to maximize the appeal of the roses, I thought an orthodox one would be good.
I tried to make it extraordinarily cute.
IzumiSo pretty...it has so many decorations, it's gorgeous!
HomareWhat a surprise, even the crown is decorated with roses! How marvelous, Yuki-kun!
ItaruIt's so frilly. I seriously have to wear this costume at my age...?
YukiWhat are you mumbling about? Do you have any complaints?
ItaruNo, Yuki-sama, not at all.
IzumiEh? Yuki-kun, there's one more costume over there...
YukiYeah, this is the one I'm going to wear for the event, but I liked the design, so I made another version.
IzumiWow, a skirt! This one is also really cute...!
YukiRight? I'm thinking of wearing it someday.
IzumiAll the costumes look great, I'm really looking forward to the event. Do your best, Yuki-kun.
YukiYeah, I'll make sure to play a prince that fits the costume properly. You'll see.

Notes

  1. He said 桃尻 (momojiri), an old word meaning "bad at horse-riding, unable to sit firmly in the saddle" or someone that is fidgety or restless, when it should be 物知り (monoshiri) which means someone that is well-informed.
