Chocolate I Can't Carry
Backstage Stories
| Muku | It's been a long time since we've been at school, huh. |
| Yuki | We already don't have class anymore. |
| Muku | Yeah... well, I'm heading towards my classroom. |
| Yuki | Are you going to show up at cram school today? |
| Muku | I plan to, so let's go home together until we have to part ways. |
| Yuki | Got it. I'm ending earlier, so I'll come to get you. |
| Muku | Okay, see you later. |
| Girl A | Good morning, Muku-kun. |
| Muku | Good morning. |
| Girl A | Here, Valentine's Day chocolates. Will you accept them? |
| Muku | What? You're giving them to me? I'm glad, thank you.[1] |
| Girl B | From me too, Muku-kun. Please have some. |
| Girl C | I'm giving you some, too. Eat them later, okay? |
| Muku | Wow, thanks! I'll eat them later. |
| (I'll put them in my bag.) | |
| Girl D | Sakisaka-kun, here: Valentine's Day chocolates. |
| Girl E | Me too! I'd be glad if you would accept them! |
| Girl F | Here, I saw on Inste that these were super delicious. Please have them! |
| Muku | Is it really okay? Thanks everyone, I'll eat them carefully afterwards. |
| Girl D | We just wanted to give these to you! See you! |
| (footsteps SFX) | |
| Boy A | ...You're amazing as always, Sakisaka. |
| Boy B | You're even popular among girls in other classes, too. |
| Muku | Everyone's so nice. They're going to the trouble of giving me obligation chocolates,[2] just because I like chocolate.... |
| Boy A | No, there's definitely a bunch of love chocolates in there, too. |
| Boy B | The only one who doesn't realize it is the guy himself. |
| Muku | Oh no, what should I do.... |
| Yuki | Are you leaving now, Muku? |
| Muku | Oh... it's just, I can't fit all of the chocolate everyone gave me into my bag..... |
| Yuki | I thought that would happen. Here, use this paper bag. |
| Muku | Huh? Is it okay? |
| Yuki | I had a feeling you'd get a lot of chocolate today, so I brought an extra one. |
| Muku | What?! Really? Sorry, thank you. I'll use it. |
| ...Ah, they all fit. Sorry for making you wait, Yuki-kun. | |
| Yuki | Alright, let's go then. |
| Muku | Okay. |
| Girl G | Sakisaka-senpai! Here, we have Valentine's Day chocolates. |
| Girl H | If it's fine with you, please take them! |
| Muku | You waited here all this time for me? Thank you. |
| Yuki | ...We barely even left the school. There's tons of girls here to give you chocolate. |
| Muku | Sorry, it's because of my love for chocolate.... |
| Yuki | ...Well, no, not really. |
| Muku | Speaking of which, I was surprised—I got chocolates from guys, too. |
| Yuki | I've gotten those too, sometimes. |
| Muku | Huh?! Really? I never knew.... |
| But I understand the feelings of wanting to give Yuki-kun reverse chocolate. |
| Muku | Alright, I'm going to head to cram school. |
| Yuki | Okay... oh, right. Here. |
| Muku | A paper bag? |
| Huh? I don't think I'd get any at cram school, though? | |
| Yuki | Mhmm, sure. ...Well, it's just a gut feeling. |
| Muku | I'll take it then, just in case. |
| Yuki | If you can't carry it all home, why don't you call the Director? She said she was free and at the dorms today. |
| Muku | Okay, got it. |
| (I mean, I don't think I'll receive that much, but....) | |
| Muku | (By the time I got here, I already received more chocolate. I'm glad I took Yuki-kun's bag.) |
| Girl I | Sakisaka-kun, I have this for you... if it's okay. |
| Muku | Huh? Really? |
| Girl J | Um, me too.... Will you accept this? |
| Muku | Of course. Thanks, you two. |
| (...I've gotten more chocolates than I expected.) | |
| Kureha | Oh? Muku-kun? |
| Muku | Oh, Kureha-kun. You came to this building? |
| Kureha | Yeah, there's a senpai here that I wanted to greet. |
| Muku | I see. Oh, you've got a lot of stuff with you. |
| Kureha | You've got even more. |
| Muku | I also have the ones I got from school.... |
| Kureha | Oh, did you have to go in today? |
| Muku | Yeah, lots of people gave me chocolates. They're really nice. |
| Kureha | That's great. Well, I gotta go to my part-time job, so I'm gonna head out soon. |
| Muku | Good luck at work! Be careful. |
| (...It'll be hard for me to go home carrying these paper bags by myself.) | |
| (Right, I'll contact the Director, just like Yuki-kun said to.) | |
| Muku | (Thank goodness... I feel bad, though, since it's her one day to relax and take it slow....) |
| Izumi | Muku-kun, I'm here. |
| Muku | Sorry for making you go to all this trouble when it's your first day off in a while. |
| Izumi | Don't apologize, just this much is fine. I'll carry these. |
| Muku | Sure, thank you. |
| Girl I | Huh...? Who is that...? |
| Girl K | His girlfriend? |
| Girl J | What a shock.... I liked him, too.... |
| Girl I | ...Muku-kun likes older girls, huh. |
| Izumi | (Could this be... they're getting the wrong idea...!?) |
| Ah—... umm, Muku-kun! We're having katsu curry for dinner tonight! It's super tasty, so look forward to it! | |
| Muku | Huh? Oh, really? Sounds good! |
| Girl K | Wait, maybe she's his sister or a relative? Or the housemother at his troupe's dorm? |
| Girl I | Ah, that must be it...! They seem like family, judging from their conversation. |
| Girl J | That's gotta be it! Thank goodness.... |
| Izumi | (Great, seems like I fixed the misunderstanding...! I couldn't just leave Muku-kun with a misunderstanding like that.) |
| Muku | Something wrong, Director? |
| Izumi | Ah... n-no, nothing! Let's go home now. |
| Muku | Okay! |
- ↑ A lot of "gift-giving" dialogue in Japanese is kind of flowery, and can sound a bit stilted/repetitive in English. I don't want to truncate it, so you're just going to have to bear with it a little bit...
- ↑ There are three kind of chocolates: obligatory chocolates (義理チョコ) that you would give to all your classmates or coworkers, friendship chocolates (友チョコ) that you give to your good friends, and "favorite" (romantic) chocolates (本命チョコ) that you give to your lover or love interest. There's also reverse chocolates (逆チョコ), where a boy gives chocolates instead of a girl (guys are supposed to give chocolates on White Day).
