Monster Discussion
Backstage StoriesIzumi | —Huh? Homare-san? |
Homare | Oh my, Director-kun. What a coincidence, hm? |
Coming home from shopping?
Hand me your bags, I will carry them.
Izumi | Thank you very much. |
Homare-san, did you go out somewhere too?
Homare | Ahh, I went to the library. There was something I wanted to look into, so it’s a relief I found the perfect book. |
Izumi | Something you want to look into? |
Homare | Umu. It’s this. |
Izumi | “Encyclopedia of the World’s Monsters”… |
Homare | I’m to wear a monster costume for this time’s Veludo Way Halloween, am I not? |
I thought it’d be easier to act if have knowledge of monsters after all.
Izumi | That reminds me, monster costumes were decided for Homare-san and Kumon-kun, right? |
Homare | The world’s various monsters are listed, so it’s very exciting. I plan to take my time reading this later. |
Izumi | (Homare-san in a monster-suit costume… I wonder how that will turn out?) |
Homare | Ho, a wyvern? |
Izumi | (Ah, Homare-san. I wonder if he’s reading the book he borrowed before.) |
Itaru | That type of dragon appears in games a lot too. |
Homare | Oh I see. |
Even if you say the word “dragon”, it has various forms, right?
Ohh, this mythical beast here is also rather unique.
Itaru | Hmmm, yokais are listed too, huh… |
Homare-san, won’t you show this book to me too afterwards?
Homare | Why, of course I don’t mind! |
Since this will surely become useful reference for Veludo Way Halloween.
Izumi | (More than using it as reference for Halloween, it feels like only Itaru-san’s chuunibyou spirit is being stimulated…) |
(Well, he looks like he’s having fun so I guess it’s fine.)
Yuki | Hmmm… |
Izumi | Yuki-kun? What’s wrong? |
Yuki | I’m thinking about the design for the Halloween costumes, you see. |
Homare | I request a creative design that suits me. |
Kumon | Hehe, I’m really lookin’ forward to what kinda monster I’ll turn into! |
Yuki | Originally, I was thinking I want to make monster-suit costumes but—. |
I’m worrying what kind of direction would be good to get these two here to match.
Izumi | Ah—, I see. |
Taichi | Monster designs? |
In that case, I think Akapoyo-kun works!
Yuki | Akapoyo-kun? |
Taichi | Hold on… I’ll search the image, um. |
See, it’s this! | |
Homare | Ohh, it truly is a monster! |
Kumon | It’s the character on Taichi’s T-shirt, huh! |
Yuki | Hmm… That’s true, it’d look great if we used it as a monster-suit. |
Izumi | Yeah, its vibe seems to fit with Halloween, and it seems it can be used as reference. |
Taichi | Even though Akapoyo-kun is super cute, the characters aren’t increasing at all… |
That’s why I want Yuki-chan to use his sense and make some friends for him!
Yuki | Even if you say “friends”… |
Homare | Umu… |
In that case, I will think of something! |
Homare | Fortunately, I just acquired knowledge about monsters. |
It might be of use in some way.
Kumon | Is Homare-san going to think about the monsters? |
It seems it’ll be super fun!
Yuki | I don’t really care but… It might happen to be helpful for the designs. |
Homare | Umu! Then I shall think right away! |
Taichi | As expected, it’s Halloween so black and orange would be good as colours, right! |
Izumi | Black and orange are the classic colours of Halloween, huh? |
Yuki | And I guess purple is also used a lot. |
I think it’s possible to decide the theme colour first, and then after that, think about the design…
Homare | Umu… In that case, what if we decide starting from the characters’ setting first? |
Izumi | The characters’ setting? |
Yuki | …We’re discussing the design though. |
Homare | I borrowed a book about monsters from the library, so I have various theories or set-ups for monsters as well. |
Which country the monster is from, what kind of magic it uses…
Itaru-kun also said that such settings and backgrounds make the monsters even more fascinating!
Yuki | Repeating what that chuunibyou guy said, huh… |
Homare | So for that reason… Let me see, for an ice age era monster that looks like a mammoth—. |
Its birthplace is Papua New Guinea, it was raised in France…
Its hobby…That’s right, how about the Hyakunin Isshu[1]?
Taichi | EHH!? |
Izumi | U-ummm… |
Kumon | SO COOL!! It’s super original! |
In that case! My monster’s name is “Ultimate Holy God Monster”—.
It’s odd-eyed, and sprouts wings…
And its finishing move is “Raging Fire Ball” or something! How’s that!?
Homare | Ohh, odd-eyed, huh…! How mysterious! |
Then if that’s the case, its rank status is—.
Umu, thinking about our characters is also great fun!
—HAA! Poetic inspiration has sprung forth!
Original crystal; to new friends, an encore—!
Taichi | Weren’t you guys coming up with friends for Akapoyo-kun!? |
Both are way too far from the way Akapoyo-kun’s world looks~!
Izumi | It certainly seems they’re original and unique characters… |
Yuki | ...I'm only referencing the colours we said at the beginning. |

Notes
- ↑ The "小倉百人一首" (Ogura Hyakunin Isshu) is an anthology of 100 traditional Japanese poems by 100 poets. It has also been made into a card game called "Hyakunin Isshu Karuta", but Homare simply said "Hyakunin Isshu" so I'm not sure if he's referring to that or just reciting the poems(?)
