Episode 26: The Time That Can't Be Recovered
Previous Main Story Next
IzumiAll right, we'll start from Act 2, Mercutio's scene——.
YuzoYo, you guys. You're going to watch a play now, so get ready.
IzumiYuzo-san!? Why did you suddenly come?
YuzoThe theatre where I teach is holding a performance right now. I'll invite you to watch it for studying purposes.
IzumiThe theatre where Yuzo-san...?
(But it's true that there may be some hints to improve our quality.)
Understood. Then, get ready, guys.
Izumi(Amazing... The level is too high.)
SakuyaThis is overwhelming...
TsuzuruAs expected of Yuzo's quality...
CitronHis Yakuza face is not just for show.
ItaruIt's a different case.
Izumi(I wonder if everyone lost confidence after watching this... I'll hold a meeting once we get home.)
IzumiVery well, I'd like you to tell me the positive aspects that you got from the play just now——.
SakuyaHow about putting a daily special element to our play!?
TsuzuruAh, I think so too. Like adlibs or something.
SakuyaI heard that it's something the audience looks forward to!
IzumiYup. That's a nice idea.
ItaruIf we have spare time, how about doing a street act in the lobby?
CitronThat's a nice idea too!
TsuzuruI think maybe we can make our performance a little bit more flashy, like using lighting effects.
MasumiWe can make use of the stage's space more.
TsuzuruYeah, let's think about our movements more.
IzumiYou're right.
SakuyaSince most of us also play the minor roles, how about asking some people to appear as extras?
IzumiYeah. I'll try asking Manager if we can borrow other theatres' members.
TsuzuruIt'd be great if we can do it. Changing clothes is tough, after all.
IzumiYou guys... You use the play just now as your encouragement very well instead of feeling down about it.
SakuyaI want to make our performance better and better.
TsuzuruI want to do all the things that we could do.
MasumiI don't want to lose.
CitronWe have to do our best.
ItaruWe have to bring perfection.
Izumi(Thank goodness. I don't need to worry about them. Everyone has certainly grown up.)
All right then, we shall think about how to make use of those ideas!
Tsuzuru.....
IzumiHuh? You're still awake, Tsuzuru-kun?
TsuzuruI'm a little bit restless.
IzumiI see.
TsuzuruWhenever I close my eyes, the image of the play this afternoon come in my head.
IzumiAh, it was really great. I thought that you guys would feel down after watching that, but I was wrong. Your mentality has also gotten stronger.
TsuzuruNo, truth be told, I was scared, and I felt down. But we don’t have time for that kind of attitude, so I pulled myself together somehow.
IzumiIt means you’ve grown strong enough to pull yourself together.
TsuzuruWell, yeah. But I wanted to do theatre earlier.
Then I'd be able to do various things since I had basic experience.
IzumiDid you not join a theatre club at your school?
TsuzuruI couldn't join any clubs since I have a lot of brothers.
I tried to join a theatre club during my high school days, but I just joined for a while.
It was a pretty passionate club, so practice went really late, and—when I came home, my youngest brother had a fever, and it was a big deal... so I thought, no, I can’t do this.
IzumiI see... You got trapped by family matters.
TsuzuruWell, that's what they say, but I wonder.
Still, if I really wanted to go on, I could just tell them my circumstances and go home early. But I gave up too soon.
It was an issue of my determination; I just couldn’t get myself to do it. But I blamed my beloved family. That bothered me for so long.
IzumiBut didn't you come to Veludo Way and search for a theatre to make that dream come true?
TsuzuruThat is, well....
IzumiThat's why it doesn't matter even if you started out a little bit late.
Thanks to that, you joined this MANKAI Company. I'm grateful for Tsuzuru-kun's family.
Besides, if you started doing theatre earlier, you'd join another theatre company. You might not be able to meet everyone here.
And Tsuzuru-kun's beautiful original RomiJuli would not be born.
Tsuzuru...I see. You're right.
I could write RomiJuli because of the first generation's RomiJuli, and because I met you guys...
IzumiRight? You were able to work hard writing the script in that one week because your frustration had banked up.
TsuzuruHaha. Well, that's true. I really thought at that time that if I couldn't write it now, I couldn't write it forever. I was desperate.
Yeah, it wasn't pointless....
IzumiYou should write from now on too. You have to write for this company. Tsuzuru-kun is MANKAI Company's official playwright, after all.
TsuzuruOfficial is too much...
IzumiIt's not!
Tsuzuru....Then, this theatre has to succeed so that I can continue writing.
IzumiThat's right. We absolutely have to succeed.

IzumiNext let’s start from Mercutio’s lines in Act 2—
YuuzouOi, guys. We’re gonna go watch a play now, so get ready.
IzumiYuuzou-san!? What’s this, all of a sudden?
YuuzouThe troupe I’m instructing is putting on a performance now. I’m inviting you; come watch and learn.
IzumiYuuzou-san’s troupe...?
(He has a point; we might pick up some hints as to how to improve our play.)
I understand. Everyone, get ready to go.
Izumi(Amazing... their level is far above ours.)
SakuyaIt’s so overwhelming...
TsuzuruYuuzou quality at its finest...
CitronHis yakuza face isn’t just for show.
ItaruThey’re on a different level.
Izumi(I wonder if they’ve lost confidence... when we get back I need to hold a meeting.)
IzumiLet’s stick to the positives now, and think about what we can learn from that performance—.
SakuyaWhy don’t we make day-to-day changes!?
TsuzuruOh, yeah, I was thinking about that too. Like adlibs.
SakuyaI heard some guests saying they came multiple times because they wanted to check those out!
IzumiY-yup. Sounds good.
ItaruIf we can handle it, we can do street acts in the lobby.
CitronThat was good too!
TsuzuruWe can make the stage effects a little flashier. Their lighting was really effective.
MasumiUse the stage more freely.
TsuzuruYeah, let’s think about our movements.
IzumiSounds good.
SakuyaMaybe it’s better to have extras play supporting roles, instead of having troupe members play them all?
IzumiSounds good. I’ll ask the manager if we can borrow some guest extras from different troupes.
TsuzuruThat way we’ll have more variety. Plus, changing costumes is a lot of work.
IzumiEveryone... Instead of feeling let down, you’re really making this an opportunity to improve.
SakuyaI want to make the performance better and better.
TsuzuruI want to do everything I can.
MasumiI don’t want to lose.
CitronWe need to do our best.
ItaruWe need to make it more perfect.
Izumi(Thank goodness. I didn’t need to worry; everyone is growing for sure.)
All right, let’s start brainstorming how to incorporate those ideas in our performance!
Tsuzuru.....
IzumiOh? Tsuzuru-kun, you're still up?
TsuzuruI’m just really awake.
IzumiI see.
TsuzuruHow should I put it—when I close my eyes, the performance we saw today just drifts into my mind.
IzumiAh, it was amazing, huh. I thought everyone would feel let down, but I’m glad you’re all stronger than that.
TsuzuruNo, truth be told, I was scared, and I felt down. But we don’t have time for that kind of attitude, so I pulled myself together somehow.
IzumiIt means you’ve grown strong enough to pull yourself together.
TsuzuruI guess so. But man, I wish I’d started acting sooner.
That way, I would have the basics down, and I could try all kinds of things.
IzumiYou didn't join the theater club at school?
TsuzuruI didn’t have time—I was busy taking care of my little brothers.
I did try to join the theater club during high school and became a temporary member, but.
It was a pretty passionate club, so practice went really late, and—when I came home, my youngest brother had a fever, and it was a big deal... so I thought, no, I can’t do this.
IzumiI see... So you endured it for your family.
TsuzuruWell, that's what I've been saying, but I wonder.
If I really wanted to do it, I could've explained my situation to the club, and arranged to go home early, or something. There could've been a way. But I gave up so easily.
It was an issue of my determination; I just couldn’t get myself to do it. But I blamed my beloved family. That bothered me for so long.
IzumiBut you were looking for a troupe on Veludo Way because you wanted to make your dreams come true, right?
TsuzuruWell, yeah...
IzumiThen, your timing just changed a little—but that’s not a problem.
Because thanks to that, you joined this company. So I'm grateful to your family, Tsuzuru-kun.
If you’d started acting earlier, you might've joined a different troupe. You might not have met everyone here.
We wouldn't have this wonderful Tsuzuru-kun-original RomiJuli.
Tsuzuru...Yeah. You’re right.
I wrote that RomiJuli because the Original Spring Troupe's RomiJuli existed—because I met everyone....
IzumiYes. Because your feelings had been bottled up for so long, you could write that script in a week.
TsuzuruHaha. That's true; at the time, I felt like, if I don't write it now, I’ll never get a chance again.
I see, so it wasn't all a waste.....
IzumiYou can write from now on as well. We need you to write for us. Tsuzuru-kun, you're our company's representative playwright.
TsuzuruRepresentative—you're exaggerating....
IzumiNot at all!
Tsuzuru....Then, if I want to keep writing, I need to make this performance a success.
IzumiYup. We’ll make it a success for sure.
