A Samurai's Unquestionable Right to Cut Down Commoners
Backstage StoriesSakyo | The props have arrived. |
Yuki | Over here is the weaponry, over here are the accessories. |
Kumon | Uwahh, amazing—! |
Tenma | Heh, both the katanas and naginatas are well-made, huh? |
Misumi | What about this scroll~? |
Tsuzuru | That’s a letter. |
Izumi | Everyone, try taking each prop and say if there’s anywhere that’s heavy and difficult to use. |
Chikage | I have no problems. |
Tenma | Yeah, me neither. |
Kumon | Japanese swords, so cool! |
Fuu, haa! Tah! | |
*swing, swing* | |
Sakyo | Oi, don’t swing it so wildly! |
Kumon | Yeees. |
… | |
Actually just one more time! Hiyaah—!
*swing* | |
Sakyo | I told you to quit swinging it! |
If there’s no issues, they’ll be stored apart from rehearsals.
Tidy up. | |
Kumon | Ehh! |
S-sure. | |
They got confiscated… | |
…That happened, see. | |
Haa, I wanted to try using it more even more though.
Muku | It’d be troublesome if you broke it before the performance, so it can’t be helped. |
Kumon | Well I guess that’s true! |
I wanted to properly get used to it in my hand.
The members in this time’s show are guys who seem like they can handle sword fights smoothly.
Kazunari | Weeell, Tsuzurun doesn’t really seem like that though. |
Muku | Ah, right. |
In that case, wouldn’t it be nice to do it as role-making?
Kumon | What do you mean? |
Muku | For example, cut down those that met your eyes |
And have them act like they’ve been done in.
Kumon | Wah, that seems super interesting! |
It’s like! “A samurai’s right to cut down commoners”![1]
Kazunari | That’s catchy and legit! |
The era is different though!
Muku | The “samurai’s right to cut down commoners” was from the Edo period. |
Kazunari | Cept doesn’t Yasuhira cut Kurou down in another sense? |
It’s not entirely mistaken then!
Kumon | Alri—ght! I’ll LIME the network immediately! |
*notification sound* | |
Tasuku | Hm? |
Sakyo | It seems like the entire group’s. |
Kumon's LIME message | "Please cooperate for role-making! (` ・∇・´) /" |
Guy | Morning runs are great after all. |
Tasuku | Today the weather is great too, and the wind felt good. |
Kumon | Ah! |
Tasuku | Hm? |
Kumon | Good morning! |
…So then, “a samurai’s right to cut down commoners”!
*swing* | |
Tasuku | Gwaaahh!! |
Guy | Uguu!! |
Kumon | Ooohh, as expected Tasuku-san and Guy-san’s acting of being slashed is powerful—! |
The two of you, thank you very much for accompanying my role-making!
Tasuku | It’s fine, this also becomes acting study. |
Guy | Yes. Besides, Kumon cooperated in the role-making for our Devil play. |
I also want to become your strength.
Azami | ..*Yaawn*… |
Kumon | Azami! Morning! |
Azami | Gehh… |
Kumon | Here I gooo! “A samurai’s right to cut down commoners”! |
*swing* | |
Azami | …Gahh. |
Kumon | Do it a little more seriously—! |
Azami | Something so intense suddenly after waking up… |
Omi | The toast is done. |
Itaru | Citron, pass the mayonnaise. |
Citron | Here you go! |
Kumon | Morning! |
Homare | Good morning, Kumon-kun. |
Banri | What’s with that katana… |
Wait, come to think of it you’re doin’ role-making, right?
Sakyo | Good grief… what a weird place to use that.[2] |
Itaru | I’ve been waiting, Kumon. |
Citron | Bring it on! |
Kumon | Everyone, thanks for your support! |
Alriiight, one hundred person slash—![3]
“A SAMURAI’S RIGHT TO CUT DOWN COMMONERRRS”!!
*swing, swing, swing* | |
Homare | Gwaaah. |
Banri | Uuh…! Gwaah! |
Citron | GYAAAAH! |
Sakyo | Guuh… Gwaah. |
Itaru | UWAAAH!! |
Omi | Ugaaah! |
Kumon | Amazinggg! |
Everyone, thank you—! | |
Sakyo | Geez, making so much damn noise from the morning… |
Banri | Come to think of it, Kumon, have you met that guy yet? |
Kumon | Eh? That guy? |
Juza | Mornin’. |
Kumon | !! |
Juza | … |
Citron | Ohh, Juza’s eyes, they’re saying “come at me”…! |
Kumon | N-nii-chan… |
Itaru | Come on, go forth Kumon. |
Banri | It’s role-making. |
Homare | Go on, with that katana! |
Kumon | Uh… |
Juza | Kumon. |
Kumon | I… |
I can’t do something like cut down nii-chan—!
*drops sword* | |
Banri | Dude, pick up your katana. |
Sakyo | Geez... |
Anna
Notes
- ↑ The term is "切捨御免" (kiri-sute gomen), which means "the right of samurai to kill commoners for perceived affronts". This was a privilege given to a samurai of the Edo period that allowed one to slay anyone of a lower class who was compromising their honour. I didn't know if I should keep the original Japanese phrase or use an English definition but decided English.
- ↑ The phrasing was a bit confusing but I believe that's the gist of it
- ↑ "百人斬り" (hyakunin giri) is a phrase that more literally means "100 people were cut by a sword", and basically denotes a large number of people being cut down/ killed. I tried to make it sound more like a move name here for our chuuni Kumon~
