Backstage Stories
Tsuzuru—Yes, the exit is over there.
Please do come again.
Phew…
???Excuse me, do you have a moment?
TsuzuruYes, what can I help you—.
ItaruHey~.
TsuzuruErr, Itaru-san!?
Masumi…It’s not just Itaru.
CitronYou’re surprised, right, Tsuzuru?
The surprise is a huge success~!
SakuyaTsuzuru-kun, good work!
TsuzuruWhat's this… Everyone came, huh?
MasumiWhere’s Director?
TsuzuruYou sure never change…
She said she was going to go buy something a while ago, so she might not be back yet.
ItaruThat’s too bad.
CitronWe wanted to meet her~.
TsuzuruAh, did you meet with Chikage-san?
SakuyaYes! We only talked for a little bit.
CitronYou’ve been working bulgingly[1], hm~.
MasumiBy that, you mean working busily.
TadoruOh, everyone came.
CitronOhh, Tadoru!
ItaruLong time no see.
SakuyaThe special exhibition is really lovely!
TadoruThanks~.
Keep enjoying yourselves, alright?
ItaruIt wouldn’t be good to disturb you too much, so we’ll have a proper look around and then go home.
CitronFight on, Tsuzuru!
MasumiDirector…
SakuyaCome on, Masumi-kun, let’s go!
Tsuzuru…Good grief.
They’re really the same as ever.
TadoruThey’re a lively bunch, huh~.
IzumiAh, Tadoru-san, so you were here.
TadoruDirector-san, what’s up?
IzumiOh, I bought some snacks so please eat them with everyone later. Tsuzuru-kun too.
TsuzuruT-thank you very much.
TadoruAs expected of Director-san, you’re attentive to others~.
TsuzuruBy the way, just now, Sakuya and them came and they were searching for you. Especially Masumi.
IzumiEh, really?
Then I’ll try contacting them.
TsuzuruYeah.
But Director, please get enough rest too, ok?
TadoruRight right, what Tsuzuru said.
IzumiAhaha… Thank you very much.
TsuzuruGood work everyone!
I’m glad our roles as guides and our Reader’s Theatre[2] ended as a huge hit.
HomareUmu. With our newly acquired expression through Reader’s Theatre, we can make even greater strides forward… Uuhhh.
SakyoAren’t you cryin’, Arisugawa?
Although it was largely a success, there’s still lots of room for improvement, got it? For example…
KazunariSakyo-san, please point out my faults as well!
I would like to devise some inclinations and countermeasures for future improvement.
HomareOh, how eager…!
Kazunari-nari now he's honestly, a suddenly thundery inari sushi…[3]
TsumugiFufu, Homare-san’s drunk crying has begun, huh?
ChikageSakyo-san’s lectures becoming more lengthy than usual is also a given at drinking parties.
GuyMiyoshi’s habit of switching to formal language when he’s drunk is strange no matter how many times I see it.
IzumiIt’s a privilege we can enjoy having drinks like this at our closing party since there were many performers from the adult group, right?
Tsuzuru—Haa, I finally managed to escape.
IzumiTsuzuru-kun.
What’s wrong?
TsuzuruAh no, they’re getting really wild over on that side…
Also Arisugawa-san seems like he’s getting really drunk too.
IzumiAhaha. But it’s nice everyone looks like they’re having fun.
TsuzuruWell, that’s true I guess.
IzumiEven so, it’s a shame Tadoru-san couldn’t make it to our closing party.
TsuzuruWell… He said he had an urgent job, so don’t worry about it too much.
IzumiBut when he goes overseas again, you won’t be able to meet him for a while.
TsuzuruNo, he was saying he’ll be in Japan for a little longer though…
*notification sound*
Hm?
Tsuzuru—Speak of the devil.
It’s a LIME from aniki.
IzumiWhat amazing timing, huh?
What did Tadoru-san say?
Tsuzuru“Sorry that I couldn’t come to the closing party”…is what he said, and it seems he has something he wants to give me so he’ll contact me soon.
IzumiWoah, that’s exciting!
TsuzuruIt’s aniki, so I don’t think it’s going to be such a big deal though.
Sakyo—Oi, over there.
The hell have you two been sneakin’ around about for a while now?
ChikageI might have to report this to Masumi, hm, Tsuzuru.
TsuzuruNo, we’re not being sneaky or anything!
HomareTsuzuru-kun’s sneaky, Sakyo-san’s uneasy,
And Chikage-kun’s also giddy, ehehe~.
KazunariWould you please give me some advice as well, Tsuzuru-san?
By all means, please give me your valuable opinions as a playwright—.
TsuzuruWhat are you saying… Uh, wait!
Y-you’re heavy…!
IzumiAhaha…
(Ummm, the other things we need are…)
TadoruHuh? Could it be, Director-san?
IzumiTadoru-san!? What a coincidence.
Wait, something like this happened before too, right?
TadoruThat’s true~. I wonder if we have some sort of affinity, running into each other like this so many times.
IzumiAhaha… Oh right, thank you very much for the Reader’s Theatre the other day.
TadoruNot at all, I’m the one who should be saying thanks~. Both for the special exhibition, and for Tsuzuru as usual—.
Ah right, Director-san, are you free on the weekend?
IzumiThis weekend?
Well I don’t think I have anything but…
TadoruI have plans to meet with Tsuzuru, you see.
So I wonder, how about Director-san joins us too?
IzumiUmm… But I’d feel guilty about intruding on your private sibling time.
TadoruIt’s fine, it’s fine. I wanted to thank you for the refreshments, for preparing various things for us, and most importantly, for taking this job on this time.
Alright, I’ll contact Tsuzuru about the details!
I'll see you this weekend~.
IzumiAh, Tadoru-san—And he left.
TsuzuruEh? When did that kind of conversation…
IzumiI’m sorry for intruding on you two.
TsuzuruNot at all.
Same here, I’m sorry you got dragged into this.
Or rather, Director, you bump into aniki often, huh?
IzumiAhaha. Tadoru-san said that too.
TsuzuruFor now, I’ll try contacting him too…
When I’ve got the details, I’ll let you know again.
IzumiYeah, please do.
TsuzuruAniki, that guy, why did he pick out such a trendy place?
Err, I mean he’s the one who invited us so what’s he thinking being late himself?
IzumiAhaha, I bet he’s definitely busy, right?
Even so, this café has a wonderful atmosphere.
TsuzuruAniki was telling me this, but apparently, the director of the museum is the one who’s producing this café.
IzumiReally!?
Its image is totally different from that strange museum…
TsuzuruRight? It’s pretty sophisticated…
I’m honestly not used to places like this.
Do I seem out of place?
IzumiYou’re blending in perfectly, so don't worry.
TsuzuruIn any case, I was told it’s fine to order first, so shall we take a look at the menu?
What’s this, “Bactrian Camel”?
What a weird menu name…
IzumiHere it says, “Light Paccio VS Heavy Paccio”.
This unique sense really was produced by that director, huh…
TsuzuruHaha, somehow this reminds me of Citron-san.
IzumiThe names on the menu at Guy-san’s bar were interesting too, right?
TsuzuruYeah. Somehow my nervousness has melted away.
Shall we order?
IzumiMm~, delicious!
It's plated really nicely, so you can enjoy it with both your eyes and your tongue, huh?
TsuzuruYeah.
It’s a relief that the only part that’s strange are the names.
…Even so, aniki sure is late.
CHOICE 1: I don’t mind at all. [+]
IzumiI don’t mind at all, so it’s fine.
TsuzuruBut—.
IzumiMore than that, we’ve got tasty food here in front of us so we have to enjoy it!
Tsuzuru…That’s true.
I normally don’t have an opportunity to come to a place like this.
So let's just forget about my brother and enjoy ourselves as if the two of us planned to come here together from the start.
IzumiTsuzuru-kun, that’s harsh…!
CHOICE 2: It’s fun. [+]
IzumiIt’s rare to visit this kind of café together with Tsuzuru-kun, so I’m having lots of fun right now.
Tsuzuru…Well, that’s true.
IzumiLook, the desserts seem tasty too!
It's hard to know which one to choose~.
TsuzuruThen do you want to order two kinds and split with me?
IzumiIs that ok?
TsuzuruOf course. I’ll get aniki to treat us.
Also… Now I’m kind of glad that aniki’s late.
IzumiEh?
TsuzuruIt’s been a while since Director and I have slowly spent time together like this, so I feel a little lucky.
IzumiTsuzuru-kun…
TsuzuruWait, what am I saying!
Somehow, sorry about that.
IzumiAh, no—.
TadoruSorry for the wait~… Ah, oh?
My bad, was I interrupting, or?
TsuzuruAniki!?
No, not at all, it’s not like that!
TadoruReally~?
TsuzuruMore importantly, you came way too late!
TadoruAhh, sorry.
Work just wouldn’t end, see?
Even though Director-san went out of her way to come too, sorry~.
IzumiNo, no, don't worry about it.
TadoruI’ll take it from here, so go ahead and keep eating all the things you’d like~.
TsuzuruThat’s what I was planning to do even if you didn’t tell me.
Anyways, aniki, what’s the thing you want to give me?
You went out of your way to call me here for that, right?
TadoruAh, right, right.
It’s just this but…
Tsuzuru
CitronOhh, Tsuzuru!
What’s with the grave face?
TsuzuruCitron-san.
Ah no, I received a souvenir from a foreign country from aniki but—.
Aniki told me that in some country, this is a figure that serves as a charm for a thriving business or something… But I think that’s kind~ of questionable.
CitronT-THIS IS…!
A traditional guardian deity who drives around with spirits and invites forty in[4]…!
TsuzuruIt’s “drives away evil spirits, and invites fortune in”!
I mean, was this such an amazing item?
CitronThere’s no mistaking it…
This is unquestionably the figure that will become the saviour of MANKAI Company!
TsuzuruNo, there’s no way…
CitronI will use it to decorate the main entrance right away and let it invite happiness in!
TsuzuruNo, it’s not a maneki-neko[5]… Wait, are you really decorating!
Hold on, Citron-san!?

Notes

  1. Citron says "モリモリ" (morimori: [eating] heartily, energetically, bulging/welling up, etc.), which Masumi corrects as "バリバリ" (baribari: [working] hard/vigorously)
  2. The term is "朗読劇" (roudoku geki: lit. ~recitation play) but I saw someone on the internet describe it as a "Reader's Theatre" so I'm going with that
  3. I took some liberties to make his poems work/rhyme in English
  4. Citron says "シャケをはらいフグを呼び込む" (shake wo harai fugu wo yobikomu: ~invites in the pufferfish that drives the salmon away), which Tsuzuru corrects as "はらうのは邪気、呼び込むのは福" (harau no wa jaki, yobikomu no wa fuku)
  5. One of these
