- ↑ "初夢" (hatsu yume) is the first dream you have in the new year and traditionally, it's thought what you dream could be a sign of your luck/fortune for the rest of the year.
- ↑ "一富士二鷹三茄子" (ichi fuji ni taka san nasubi: ~first is Fuji, second are hawks, third are eggplants) is an expression that names the three most auspicious items people wish to see in their first dreams. Guy mishears it as "勝ちウシ煮釜産地ヤス" (kachi ushi ni kama sanchi yasu--which is honestly pretty hard to make sense of), so I just tried to write something that sounds vaguely similar to the original phrase.
- ↑ "大掃除" (osouji: ~big cleaning) is another new years tradition in Japan where you do a deep cleaning of your home around new years and it's thought that cleaning your home at this time also cleanses and purifies it.

- ↑ A "小判" (koban) is an oval-shaped gold coin used in the Edo period.
- ↑ Citron says a strange play on words here but I think that's what he meant.
