Itaru Chigasaki/Night's Farewell
From A3! Wiki
Railroad Journey of the Nightmare
Backstage StoriesItaru | …. |
Izumi | Itaru-san has been staring at the clock since a while ago. What’s up with him? |
Kazunari | A new late-night anime’s about to start? |
Itaru | No, that’s not it… |
*notification sound* | |
Itaru | It’s here! |
Taichi | E,eh? W-what’s here? |
Itaru | Come…come….[1] |
Citron | Ohh, is it a fishing game? |
Itaru | –Yess! I got it! |
I won! | |
Tsumugi | Won? |
Taichi | Did you win a lottery? |
Itaru | Well, something like that. Here. |
Tasuku | “Survival Rail 3[2]: Notice to lottery sale winners”…? |
Izumi | Survival Rail? |
Itaru | It’s a newly released game for Survival Railroad, in short, “Survival Rail”. It’s going to be released for the first time in 10 years. |
Izumi | Now that you mentioned it, I feel like I’ve seen the news on the internet. |
Tsumugi | I’ve heard the name before but I never played it. |
Itaru | Are you for real? It’s such a nationally famous game. |
Izumi | What kind of game is it? |
Itaru | It is a so-called “dice board game”. You can advance on the squares by rolling the dice. |
The rules are simple. The player moves each train aiming to get to their place of destination and the first person to arrive at their goal wins.
You can also study geography because it uses an IRL map. I learned the map of Japan and the prefectural capital through this.
Taichi | Heh~, sounds super fun! |
Kazunari | I wanna play it with everyone! |
Itaru | With everyone…? I’m more of a solo player though… |
Kazunari | Everyone has played various games together already! There’s no such thing as a solo player now! |
Citron | I want to play Survival Rail 3 too! |
Taichi | It’s more fun to play it together! |
Itaru | …Survival Rail 3 is different~. …But I’d like to share interesting games with you. |
Then, do you guys want to play it when I receive the game?
Taichi | Yay! |
Kazunari | It’s finally here! |
Taichi | I’m so excited I can’t wait! |
Citron | Hurry! Let’s all afford! |
Tsumugi | You mean, all aboard? |
Itaru | Is everyone here a beginner? |
Tasuku | I used to play a little with my big brother. |
Izumi | I’m completely new to this. |
Tsumugi | Me too…. |
Itaru | I’ll explain the rules. |
First, give each train a name.
Next, use the roulette to determine the order of rolling the dice and the destination.
Then, roll the dice and follow your chosen route as many times as you like.
As for the rest, I've already explained it before.
Tsumugi | Are there any other rules? |
Itaru | Actually, Survival Rail has item cards that you can use to move more efficiently or sabotage your opponents. |
Izumi | Sabotage…. |
Taichi | I feel like this is not going to end well…. |
Itaru | Told you? That’s why I said I’m more of a solo player. |
Itaru | It tends to get messy when dealing with IRL humans. That’s why I find it easier to play against a CP opponent who wouldn’t mind even if I swear. |
Therefore, everyone should play it thinking of it only as a “game”. Let’s play Survival Rail 3 with the right attitude.
Okay? | |
Citron | Roger! |
Taichi | Understood! |
Tasuku | That’s what games are all about in the first place. |
Itaru | Let’s start. |
*game start sound* | |
Game Voiceover | “Survival Railroad 3! All aboa~rd!” |
Itaru | Yess! Speedy 6x3 squares! |
Runaway train card takes the win after all.
Kazunari | Itaroon’s on a roll! |
Citron | I am using a sabotage card on Taichi! |
“Slow driving due to strong winds. You can only advance by 1-3 squares”
Taichi | Citron is such a meanie~! |
Tsumugi | Sorry, Tasuku. I will use the sabotage card on you. |
Tasuku | “The conductor is left behind. You cannot use exchange until the next turn” |
Itaru | That’s still modest. |
Izumi | It’s still peaceful so far. |
Itaru | It’s a call if 6 comes out on the next turn. I’ll be the first one to arrive! |
Tasuku | I’ll use an “exchange card” on Chigasaki. |
Itaru | Geh. |
Tsumugi | Exchange card? |
Tasuku | It’s a card that can exchange the position of your train and your opponent’s train. |
Citron | Oh–, what a prayerful card! |
Kazunari | Yup, yup, an OP card it is! |
Taichi | Even though Itaru-san was super close to the goal, it turned to dust all at once. |
Itaru | …I was overtaken immediately. |
I’ll use 5x3 advancement using the Shinkansen card then!
Citron | That’s a way to go, Itaru! |
Tsumugi | Uwah, I stopped on the red square again. |
Taichi | I have to go back by 6 squares! |
Izumi | It’s getting kinda tricky. |
Itaru | You can get in the way out of the blue but I can still win by playing my cards well. |
Tasuku | I’m using a “tornado card” on Chigasaki. |
Itaru | Hah!? |
Taichi | What kind of card is it? |
Tsumugi | It is a card that takes a train to a different station. |
Citron | Tasuku is a demon…. |
Kazunari | Ah, it’s about time to use this! |
It’s the “murder card”!
Taichi | I can tell it’s a disturbing card from its name alone. |
Izumi | What kind of card is it? |
Kazunari | Murder occurs on the train that got hit by the roulette. The train won’t be able to move for two turns until the case is solved! |
Besides, if I don’t use it within the number of turns after getting it, few incidents will happen on my train as a penalty.
Tsumugi | It’s hell to both use it or leave it… |
Kazunari | I’ll spin the roulette! |
Tasuku | The lucky train is… Taruchi Express.[3] |
Itaru | Hah!? Don’t fuck with me! |
Citron | Itaru is resting for two turns. |
Itaru | It’s the worst… |
Tasuku | Alright, call. |
Taichi | Haa~ I lost! |
Kazunari | I lost by three squares~. |
Itaru | Unbelievable…. |
Tasuku | There, there….Luck is a factor too. We can’t help it. |
Izumi | It was fun! |
Itaru | One more time! |
Tasuku | Are we still playing? |
Itaru | I won’t let the game end as it is. I’ll play it over and over until I win. |
Tasuku | Who’s the one who said: “a game is a game” though…? |
Citron | He’s contradicting himself. |
Itaru | I won’t let you go until I win. |
Tsumugi | That’s a little… |
Taichi | Please let me sleep~! |
Itaru | Hm…? |
(I am inside a train…?) | |
Announcement | Taruchi Express~. Taruchi Express~. The next station is Veludo Station… |
Itaru | Yes! It’s my win! |
!? | |
Announcement | The train was attacked by a hijacker. |
We will resume operation in 3 da~ys.
Itaru | Huh!? |
Announcement | The hijacker was arrested by the police. We will now resume the operation. |
Itaru | It’s finally moving— |
!? | |
Announcement | A bomb was thrown and the train was damaged. We will resume the operation in 1 week. |
Itaru | I’ll never reach my destination at this point… |
Itaru | Hah…! |
A dream… | |
(Did I fall asleep while playing Survival Rail 3….)
Anyhow, it was a really bad dream…
Game Voiceover | “Survival Railroad 3! All aboa~rd!” |
Itaru | Let’s seal it away for now. |
Notes
- ↑ Itaru refers to “こい”, Citron asked if it is a fishing game because “こい” (koi) sounds exactly the same as “鯉” (koi), a carp. I really have no idea how to get this pun across in English without losing the context T^T
- ↑ What he says (サバ鉄 saba-tetsu) is a shortened reference to サバイバル鉄道 (SABAIBARU Tetsudo) but there is no English shortcut for the word survival, so I just opted to use ‘Survival Rail’.
- ↑ Tasuku originally says たるち号 (Taruchi-gou), with “号” being a suffix that's attached to a train, ships, and plane names. It’s normally omitted when translated into English: for example, のぞみ213号 only gets translated as NOZOMI 213. I added the 'express’ to give it a more train-ish vibe.
