IzumiSo Itaru-san and Citron-kun will start attending practices from today onwards. And Tsuzuru-kun will be absent in order to write the script.
CitronPlease take care of me.
ItaruI may cause some trouble since I don't have any acting experience, but I'll look forward to working with you guys.
SakuyaAre you done preparing for moving, Itaru-san?
ItaruI've already brought all the necessary things with my car, so I just have to wait for the movers to bring the rest next week.
SakuyaYou have a car, huh! So cool!
ItaruIf you ever need a ride, just tell me and I'll drive you.
Izumi(What an adult...!)
If that so, we'll be relying on you when that time comes.
ItaruSure.
Izumi(He's reliable. Neither the manager or the other guys are adult-like, so this is kinda fresh.)
Well then, today we'll start by warming up and doing vocal exercises as usual.
Next, I'd like you to do a simple pantomime. You have to explain a situation to your partner with only movements, no speaking.
I'll give out the topic and the others have to guess what kind of situation it is. For starters, you can think of it as a game.
First up is Sakuya-kun.
SakuyaYes!
IzumiSakuya-kun, try playing "someone who is preparing to go out".
SakuyaRoger!
IzumiStart!
Sakuya.....
CitronI got it! It's Bon festival dance.
IzumiWrong.
ItaruA robot?
IzumiWrong.
(But his awkward movements look like a robot, indeed...)
MasumiHe broke his bones, so he can't move.
IzumiNope, wrong.
Sakuya.....
CitronI wonder what the answer is.
ItaruHmm...
IzumiOkay, time's up. The correct answer was "someone who is preparing to go out."
SakuyaI tried stuff like brushing my teeth and combing my hair, but...
CitronI couldn't tell at all.
ItaruIt's a little bit hard.
SakuyaUgh...
Izumi(I guess Sakuya-kun is an awkward person.)
Next up is Masumi-kun.
MasumiWhat should I do?
IzumiTry expressing "waiting for someone."
MasumiUnderstood.
.....
SakuyaAre you looking for something?
IzumiAh, you're close.
CitronIt looks like he's waiting for something.
IzumiThat one is also close.
ItaruI got it. He's waiting for someone.
IzumiCorrect!
MasumiDid I do a good job?
IzumiYup, yup.
(Masumi-kun is good at pantomime. He does it really well.)
Next is Itaru-san. Please come here.
ItaruDon't be too hard on me.
Izumi(I think Itaru-san and Citron-kun did a good job for beginners. I'm sure they can improve over time.)
Okay, so the next topic is——.
ItaruThe practice is supposed to end at 9, right?
IzumiAh, I'm sorry. It's already time, huh.
SakuyaI still can go on!
CitronI'd like to extend the service.
IzumiPlease don't say something like that, we look like we have some shady business here.
MasumiIf I can be with you until dawn, I wouldn't mind.
IzumiThat's indecent!
ItaruHmmm, but you still have school tomorrow, so don't push yourself too hard. Besides, I also have to work.
IzumiYes, you're right. Let's call it a day.
SakuyaUh, can I do vocal exercises for a little longer?
IzumiJust for 30 minutes, okay?
CitronI'll accompany you.
MasumiI'll stay too if you're still here.
ItaruThen, I'll head back to my room. Thank you for today.
Izumi(Itaru-san is acting kinda carefree. I guess that's because he doesn't really want to take part in the theatre in the first place...)
SakuyaSally sells seashells by the seashore![1]
CitronSally— sells— shore—!
SakuyaIt's Sally sells, seashells, by the seashore, Citron-san.
CitronSells— sells— shellsea—!
SakuyaThat's wrong.
CitronJapanese is hard.
Izumi(Citron-kun's problem lies in his Japanese, huh. He does look motivated, but I'd like him to improve his Japanese skills before the performance.)
CitronSally— bells— sea—! Yeaaay—!
Izumi(...I can't help but keep worrying about him.)

Notes

  1. The original line is "アメンボ赤いなあいうえお (Amenbo akaina aiueo)." It's a common vocal exercise for Japanese actors.

IzumiSo starting today Itaru-san and Citron-kun will be joining practice. Tsuzuru-kun will be absent due to scriptwriting.
CitronLet’s get along.
ItaruI have no acting experience, so I might trouble you, but please take care of me.
SakuyaItaru-san, are you done getting ready to move in?
ItaruI brought everything I needed in my car; everything else, the moving company will bring next week.
SakuyaYou have a car! That’s so cool!
ItaruIf you ever need a ride, let me know.
Izumi(He’s an adult...!)
Then I’ll ask for your help if something comes up.
ItaruOf course.
Izumi(He’s so reliable. The manager is out of the question, and there wasn’t a single adult among the troupe members, so this feels kind of refreshing.)
Today we’ll begin with stretches and vocal exercises as usual.
IzumiNext, I’ll have everyone do simple pantomimes. You won’t have any lines, so convey the situation to the audience solely through gestures.
I’ll tell one person what the topic is; everyone else has to figure out the situation. Just think of it as a game for now.
First is Sakuya-kun.
SakuyaYes!
IzumiSakuya-kun, your job is to act out that you’re “about to head out” through gestures.
SakuyaUnderstood!
IzumiStart!
Sakuya....
CitronI know! It’s a bon-odori![1]
IzumiBzzt.
ItaruA robot?
IzumiBzzt.
(His awkward movements can look like a robot’s....)
MasumiHe broke a bone and can’t move.
IzumiBz-zzzt..
Sakuya....
CitronI wonder what it is.
ItaruHmm....
IzumiTime’s up. The answer was “about to head out.”
SakuyaI tried brushing my teeth and brushing my hair, but...
CitronI couldn’t tell.
ItaruI think it was a little hard to tell.
SakuyaUu...
Izumi(I guess Sakuya-kun is clumsy?)
Okay, next is Masumi-kun.
MasumiWhat should I do?
IzumiYou’re going to be “waiting for someone.”
MasumiGot it.
....
SakuyaYou’re looking for something?
IzumiAh, close.
CitronHe’s waiting for something.
IzumiAlso close.
ItaruI know. He’s waiting for someone.
IzumiCorrect!
MasumiWas that good?
IzumiYup yup.
(Masumi-kun is good at pantomimes too. He’s really an all-rounder.)
Next, Itaru-san please.
ItaruGo easy on me.
Izumi(Itaru-san and Citron-kun receive passing marks for beginners. With more experience, they’ll probably grow more proficient.)
The next topic is—.
ItaruPractice was supposed to be till 9, right?
IzumiAh, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize it was 9 already.
SakuyaI can still keep practicing!
CitronI’ll provide extended service.
IzumiDon’t make this sound like a sketchy job.
MasumiIf you’re here, I don’t mind staying till morning.
IzumiInappropriate!
ItaruHm, but you have school tomorrow; you shouldn’t push yourselves too hard. I have work too.
IzumiY-you’re right. We’ll end here for today.
SakuyaUm, can I stay and practice vocal exercises for a bit longer?
IzumiFor 30 minutes, yes.
CitronI’ll join you.
MasumiI’ll stay if you will.
ItaruThen I’ll be going. Nice work.
Izumi(Itaru-san is pretty casual about this. It might be because he wasn’t interested in theater to begin with, but...)
SakuyaAmembo akaina aiueo![2]
CitronAme—aka—uo—!
SakuyaIt’s amembo, akaina, aiueo, Citron-san.
CitronAka—aka—mambo—!
SakuyaNo, that’s not it.
CitronJapanese is hard.
Izumi(Citron-kun’s biggest hurdle is clearly Japanese. But he seems motivated, so I hope he’ll improve at least a little by the time our performance comes around.)
CitronAme—yoko—yaaay! Foo!
Izumi(...I’m incredibly concerned.)

Notes

  1. A bon-odori is a Japanese festival dance.
  2. They’re chanting a poem used to practice your AIUEOs—the Japanese alphabet. You can hear bits of it in Citron’s character song, too.
