HomareGrandmother, the tea is almost—
Oh, I’m sorry! I dropped your watch.
…What do I do? It seems that I broke it.
Homare’s GrandmotherLet me have a look.
It seems fine. There are no scratches or cracks.
HomareBut this watch doesn’t have the correct time.
Homare’s GrandmotherThat watch has always been that way, ever since Sakae-san passed away.[1]
HomareEver since grandfather passed away? Why hasn’t it been repaired?
Homare’s GrandmotherSakae-san had always repaired that watch. He is gone now, so it has not been repaired since.
HomareThen how about replacing it? There is no point in having a broken watch.
Homare’s Grandmother
HomareGrandmother?
Homare’s GrandmotherYou are also the same as that watch.
HomareHuh?
Homare’s Grandmother――
HomareAh, grandmother, this watch is—
Homare’s GrandmotherI no longer need it. I shall give it to you.
HomareGrandmother…
Homare
(Even now, I still can’t forget grandmother’s hurt expression that time…)
(Surely grandmother was trying to say that I’m no different from that broken, mechanical watch…)
(It’s similar to when my girlfriend called me a cyborg. Like a machine that does not understand people’s feelings…)
(People always leave me. I’m just like that watch grandmother had thrown away.)
(I end up hurting people without understanding their feelings – I truly have been a defective product ever since I was born.)
(What must someone like myself do in order to understand Sagishima’s feelings…?)
(Things had somehow worked out during our debut play because I had the truthful magnifying glass, but that won’t do this time…)
*sigh*
MisumiTriangle, triangle~! Heave-ho!
HisokaUmph.[2]
HomareGya—!
MisumiAh, so~rry!
Hisoka…Arisu is sleeping.
HomareI fell because Misumi-kun toppled me over!
MisumiIt’s dangerous if you stand here~
HisokaBecause this is a passageway.
HomareThe balcony is not an entryway!
TsumugiOh, there you are. The meeting is about to start soon.
HomareGood grief. What if I had strained my back?
MisumiA creaky freaky triangle~[3]
HomareHm, that is quite a nice phrase.
Hisoka
TsumugiWhat’s wrong? Let’s go, Hisoka-kun.
Hisoka
Izumi
(Homare-san oozes elegance when he moves during the rehearsal. His relaxed, graceful movements are just like a butler’s.)
HomareHow was that?
IzumiI think it’s very good that you were carrying yourself like a butler.
You weren’t over-the-top like before, but this time you may have seemed too robotic – or should I say too indifferent.
HomareHm… How difficult. It won’t do if I’m filled with too much emotion, and no good either if I’m too robotic…
Izumi(Homare-san is testing things through trial and error in his own way.)
We still have time, so let’s tune it bit by bit as we go.
HomareHm.
Izumi(What I’m more worried about is…)
HomareHisoka-kun, it’s your line next.
Hisoka――
…Sorry.
Izumi(How unusual of Hisoka-san to be moving awkwardly.)
(Or rather, it feels more like the focus he had on his role as Shiki has transferred to something else.)
Is there something you’re having trouble with?
Hisoka…I want to change where we’re positioned.
IzumiWhere you’re positioned?
HisokaThis way is better. I can’t relax when there’s someone behind me.
HomareYou’re going behind me, Hisoka-kun?
IzumiErr, it looks a little weird that way.
TasukuIf the butler Sagishima isn’t standing one step behind Shiki, their master and servant relationship will be hard to grasp.
TsumugiIt can work depending on the scenario, but it feels out of place if that’s how it looks in a normal situation.
AzumaIt’s not often that a butler walks in front of the master.
IzumiHisoka-san, is it very uncomfortable for you to stand in front?
Hisoka…Fine, I’ll work hard to get used to it.
HomareWell then, from here forth I shall stand behind you everyday until you are accustomed to it.
Hisoka…That’s annoying.
HomareWhat…!?
Izumi(I wonder if being bothered by someone standing behind him is related to his past in some way…)
(There seems to be some circumstances surrounding it so it’s a bit awkward to ask him directly…)
(We’ll think of something if it’s absolutely impossible for him.)

  1. There are many ways to read 栄 – Sakae, Shigeru, Hisashi, etc. I won’t know for sure how it’s meant to be read unless they include furigana or have this story voiced. And while we’re on this topic, I happen to have the August issue of b’s log which includes the furigana for the character names in the play itself, so no problems on that regard!
  2. Misumi’s ‘heave-ho’ & Hisoka’s ‘umph’ here are one and the same. It’s the sound effect for someone straining to lift something (in this case, they’d lifted themselves up the balcony)
  3. The original jp for this line is “gikkuri bikkuri sankaku” – gikkuri from gikkuri goshi (strained back), bikkuri meaning surprise, and sankaku is.. triangle
