On behalf of MANKAI Company and Godza, we will directly hit up the 4 who graced the cover of this month’s issue! Stories looking back on the Act-off, and talks about their private lives these days are included ❤

Nanao Taichi

Profile: Age 18. Autumn Troupe member. Went through experience as a child actor, was active in another theatre troupe, and after joins MANKAI company. His characteristic bright and sprightly aura is his unique weapon within the Autumn troupe. The first work he had a leading role in was the Autumn troupe’s 5th performance, “Fire up, Mantou Fist!”. In Autumn troupe and Winter troupe’s mixed play, “Stray Devil Blues”, he displays his presence as the second lead role.

Q. Through “Stray Devil Blues” which was unveiled at the Act-off the other day, what type of new weapons or proud strengths of “Actor Nanao Taichi” did you discover?
Taichi	It’s still too soon to say this is a “weapon”, but wouldn’t it be my delicate acting? I feel like I’ve gotten a little more skilled at acting with things like facial expressions and minute gestures! Up until now, I’ve been using my entire body and expressing my emotions rather largely, but this time I wanted to express quite a realistic human who is much like the root of “Nanao Taichi”. It was lucky that I got to co-star with Tsumugi-san who’s the best role model for that.
Q. What are the charms of the lead Tsukioka Tsumugi-san that you discovered through co-starring together?
Taichi	Ummm, it’s hard to put into words but… I guess it’s his “reassurance”. I feel a sense of security both as I’m at ease when we’re together, and also since he’s a dependable acting partner. And even now, he teaches me how to study and he helps me when I have troubles; he’s always been like a super reliable older brother, but I felt that even more this time as we were co-starring!
Q. Please tell us what Nanao-san has been into these days!
Taichi	Eating my school cafeteria’s daily special sweets! All of them are cheap and tasty, but my favourite right now is the “pineapple panna cotta”~. But this project unfortunately seems like it’ll only go on for a limited time… It’ll be too bad when it’s over, but I can eat Omi-kun’s tasty sweets at the dorm so it’s alright!
Q. Regarding “contracts”, which is the keyword of your stage, who in MANKAI Company would Nanao-san bind a contract with…!?
Taichi	Actually, I recently got my long-awaited driver’s license but now that I have it, as expected, I want my own car… So that’s why I want to make a contract with Guy-san and work part-time at his shop! If it’s possible, for 4 hours a day, 3 times a week—ah, this kind of contract is a contract, but it’s an employment contract…!

Tsukioka Tsumugi

Profile: Age 26. Winter troupe leader. Has been devoted to theatre since his school days, and also has lengthy experience within theatre troupes. Skilled at delicate expressions. The first work he had a leading role in with MANKAI Company’s Winter troupe was their flagship performance, “Sympathy for The Angel”. As the lead for “Stray Devil Blues”, he played a role whose impression differed greatly from any he had done up until now.

Q. Through “Stray Devil Blues” which was unveiled at the Act-off the other day, what type of new weapons or proud strengths of “Actor Tsukioka Tsumugi” did you discover?
Tsumugi	Wouldn’t it simply be “confidence”? After all, to have been able to gain a significant win over GODza gave me significant confidence as an actor too. Though I was able to win during our flagship performance as well, what I gained this time is just as extraordinary as what I had acquired with everyone in the Winter troupe and MANKAI Company.
Q. What are the charms of the co-lead Nanao Taichi-san that you discovered through co-starring together?
Tsumugi	Taichi-kun is a natural mood-maker who always changes the atmosphere in a positive direction. The times when Tasuku and I got too heated over the play, when everyone’s acting didn’t mesh well, or when they reached their limits… The one who shifted the atmosphere was Taichi-kun. It was so impressive that Guy-san said “Nanao is like an air purifier”.
Q. Please tell us what Tsukioka-san has been into these days!
Tsumugi	I started a vegetable garden recently. A fruit sandwich that I ate at a café was so tasty that I suddenly thought, “maybe I should try growing fruits too”, and that’s how I came up with it. Right now, I’m raising strawberries and blueberries, but next time I’m thinking I’ll challenge growing some potatoes and onions as requested by Director, and edamame as requested by the adults who like alcohol.
Q. Regarding “contracts”, which is the keyword of your stage, who in MANKAI Company would Tsukioka-san bind a contract with…!?
Tsumugi	Actually there’s something I’ve been after ever since I heard Masumi-kun will attend my alma mater University… During my school days, the rolled omlette sold at the co-op store was really tasty, and even now I crave it occasionally. So that’s why I want to make a contract with Masumi-kun and have him buy it for me on a regular basis, or something. However, I can’t think of what compensation I’ll give in return. I’ll try consulting Masumi-kun about that.

Asuka Haruto

Profile: Age 25. Has experience as GODza’s top actor, and is one of their box-office stars in both name and substance. Can also frequently see him perform street acts in Veludo City. He has many eager fans and also doesn’t cut corners on fan service. For the most recent act-off with MANKAI Company, he lead Arakawa as the second lead.

Q. Asuka-san who plays a central role in GODza, please tell us again about the charms of the Theatre troupe that is GODza.
Haruto	If it’s GODza’s charms, I can talk about them for the rest of my life… But there is just one thing for sure. Theatre is said to be a composite art, but acting, story, song, fine arts… The only ones who are able to see them all in a perfect stage is us. The reason for that is solely—because the genius theatre director Kamikizaka Reni is there. Reni-san, without any compromise, creates a perfect and fabulous world for the audience. But what fascinates me the most is not the audience, it’s us actors and the staff. That’s why we also can’t slack in our day-to-day efforts in order to perfectly portray the world Reni-san envisions… As long as the absolute existence that is Reni-san guides us, GODza is by far the best Theatre troupe over anywhere else.
Q. What kind of actor is Arakawa-san who stood as the lead this time? Asuka-san, please tell us what you feel are his strengths and potential.
Haruto	His experience as an actor is still immature, but as Reni-san recognized, I think he really stands out. His natural and eye-catching presence might be similar to MANKAI Company’s Tasuku. But I think his number one strength is his youth. Isn’t the sky the limit for his room to grow? Well, it all depends on the person himself though. Besides, I don’t plan to lose yet either.
Q. Please tell us what Asuka-san has been into these days!
Haruto	I don’t mean that I’m into it but… If it had to say, then going around pet shops. Not just the usual dogs and cats, I’m looking at various animals that are a bit unique like birds and small creatures. The reason is… I guess I’m doing it because it personally soothes me.
Q. This summer, what are the things you want to do and the plans you’ve already made?
Haruto	Hmm, I don’t have anything to say in particular. I plan to return to my parents’ home in time for some local events, and sunburns are strictly forbidden so I don’t want to go to the sea or mountains… That reminds me, Reni-san told me about various recommended beauty appliances and cosmetic goods. I guess I’ll strive to improve myself to prepare for “Veludo Way Halloween” and our new performances.

Arakawa Shift

Profile: Age 15. Despite being a new star that just joined GODza, he is an up-and-coming rookie who reached the top at an extraordinary speed. Although he has no theatre experience, he has a physique blessed with a GODza-like brilliance, and possesses a calm composure that doesn’t shy away. For the act-off with MANKAI Company, he was selected as the lead, and finished his admirable debut performance with applause.

Q. In the Act-off with MANKAI Company, Arakawa-san acted in his first starring role for his stage debut! How was your very first stage and lead role?
Shift	At any rate, it’s like, “it was fun! But frustrating!” There’s no way I thought it’d be my debut performance, and also that it’d turn into a match against another Theatre troupe; but that’s for sure why I had the power to do it, and as an actor, I honestly think it became good experience. …Hey, is it alright with an answer like this? I sorta have absolutely no experience doing interviews, so sorry if it’s strange.
Q. What kind of person is Asuka-san who is your co-star, and also your senior in the same Theatre troupe? Please tell us your impression.
Shift	He’s a bit of a strange and interesting person… er, that’s a joke—ah, no, it’s true though. You can see he’s super, super stoic, and he’s a person that knows GODza’s charms more than anyone else. During the act-off we had some trouble, but that time too, I think because Haruto-san was there we were able to overcome it. Yeah—, Haruto-san at that time sure was cool~. He’s a bit naggy, but he’s a respectable senpai.
Q. Please tell us what Arakawa-san has been into these days!
Shift	Chilled croquette udon! Boil udon and pour cold noodle soup base over it, then just place a frozen croquette on top! It’s simple, right? Speaking of summer, chilled Chinese noodles are already kinda outdated. From now on, it’s the age of chilled croquette udon.
Q. This summer, what are the things you want to do and the plans you’ve already made?
Shift	As expected, if you say summer, it’s barbequing at the riverside, right? Come to think of it, does GODza not have an event like that? If they held one with huge crabs, shrimp and expensive meat, I think it’d be an extravagant barbeque. Well if there actually isn’t one, I’ll try inviting Haruto-san and Madoka, as well as Azami and Kumon-san.
