Juza & Azuma Talk[edit]
Azuma | About New Years, there are many delicious New Years dishes. Juza, what’s your favorite? |
Juza | Favorite New Years dishes… |
Braised pork probably…. Sweet black soybeans, and candied chestnut with sweet potatoes.
Azuma | Fufu, is that so. I also like those. |
Juza | Azuma-san, do you like any other New Years dishes? |
Azuma | Yes, I like nimono[1], and tempura shrimp and fish. Still following? |
New Years dishes look amazing. Each dish celebrates something specific.
Juza | I’ve heard. Red snapper means congratulations, good harvest, and longevity. |
Azuma | Correct. Kombu means joy[2], quite a pun isn’t it, datemaki[3] is similar to rolled sushi and means to be knowledgeable, I believe. |
When the new year begins, will there be a mochi competition again?
Juza | There’s a lot of flavors of mochi, delicious. |
Azuma | Fufu, I look forward to eating mochi with everyone. |
Juza | Right. |
