HomareHmm… I see.
HisokaDevil…
AzumaIt has a different kind of difficulty compared to the previous angels theme.
TsumugiI was wondering if I could get some clues from the three of you, who have a totally different life experience from mine, and use it as a reference for my role building…
HomareI shall certainly cooperate.
HisokaIf it’s something within my power…
AzumaI wonder if I can be of any help.
TsumugiThere’s a lot of things I can learn just by listening to you all talk. Don’t feel too much pressure…
HomareHow about we take turns and spend a whole day with you? You may gain something from our daily lives.
TsumugiYou have a point. I’ll be in your care, then!
HomareThere’s actually an art exhibition I’d like to go to now.
TsumugiSo they’re holding an art exhibition with “devil” as the theme, huh. This is such perfect timing.
HomareI learned about it through the publishing company I’m affiliated with. Never would I have thought it could be useful for the play.
???Arisugawa-sensei.
Homare—.
???Thank you for taking the trouble to come here today.
HomareNo, it’s no problem. I was also interested in it, after all. This is my fellow troupe member, Tsumugi Tsukioka.
???I hear a lot about you all from sensei.
HomareHe’s one of the staff, Nakamura-kun.
TsumugiNice to meet you.
NakamuraShall I show you around?
HomareNo, there’s no need. We’ll look around by ourselves.
NakamuraUnderstood. Please contact me if you need anything.
—Ah, right. I’d like to remind you that tomorrow is the deadline for your next column.
HomareShall we get going?
NakamuraA-Arisugawa-sensei—.
Tsumugi...Is it alright to leave him like that?
HomareYes. It’s no problem. Well then, where should we look first…?
TsumugiShould we borrow an audio guide?
HomareIf you need a guide, this Homare Arisugawa is more than happy to personally give you an explanation.
TsumugiTha-Thank you.
HomareWell then, first off, this work is from the 18th century—.
This is also one of Goya’s black paintings. Then, this one… hmm? I don’t know this work.
TsumugiSo this one is a manga.
HomareLooks like the story follows a gal devil who suddenly descends from heaven and lives with an ordinary male college student. This is quite interesting.
I’ve found an inspiration—High to the Heavens, Framboise…
TsumugiUhh, I don’t think you should do it here—can we save that poem for later?
HomareIs that so? It can’t be helped, then.
Oh, right. I think this is the main work for this exhibition, Johann Heinrich Füssli’s Satan.
Tsumugi—.
HomareTsumugi-kun, in your opinion, what’s the charm of the existence called devils?
Tsumugi...For me, I think it's their evil aesthetics, sex appeal that leads humans around the nose, cunning, immeasurable darkness and enigmatic mystique.
HomareI see… However, those are the features that humans can also possess.
For me, I think the point that makes their difference crucial from us humans is big.
It’s relevant to the angels we played during our debut play.
TsumugiCrucial difference…
HomareHumans and devils are basically different beings. From our way of thinking, origin, common sense to judgement, everything is different.
It’s also because they are beyond our understanding that we are tickled by curiosity and drawn to them. However, at the same time, we’re scared, and we repulse and loathe them.
This might not make sense, but in either case, they’re an existence that is able to sway our emotions immensely.
In the past, I used to be afraid of getting myself deeply involved with someone due to my inability to understand others’ train of thought.
However, ever since I joined Winter Troupe, I’ve come to learn that I could put myself in others’ shoes and be considerate of one another even if I can’t fully understand them.
Everyone in the troupe is the same. They all accepted and sympathized with a useless, broken cyborg like me even without fully understanding myself.
That is why I want to cherish everyone.
I’m thankful to them all for making me think this way.
...Oh, I’ve gotten a little bit off-topic.
TsumugiIt’s all right—please tell me more.
HomareHmm… Hisoka-kun is the one who’s most radically different from me.
He’s greatly changed since our first meeting—and much more than me, who has always been called odd.
Even though we’ve been together for so long, there are still parts of him that I can’t understand at all.
Well, he probably also thinks the same of me.
However, I find that fascinating. I have fun being with him. I feel a sense of closeness with him.
I think we’re in the same boat when it comes to wanting to keep being together.
In my opinion, I think you can be more friendly towards Lucifer and get closer to him.
TsumugiMore friendly…?
HomareWhen I came to look at your rehearsals the other day, I felt like you were too fixated on Lucifer’s aloof part.
Like, how inhuman and soulless he is…
Though it is indeed true that devils are beyond human understanding, nobody has ever seen their form.
However, if we put it that way, painters would never be able to draw them.
Perhaps, it’s possible to draw yourself closer to such an unknown existence by snuggling up close to them, feeling that heat, having a talk and befriending them.
Even though Lucifer is a mysterious being that goes beyond our understanding, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any passion burning in him.
TsumugiI see…
HomareI hope this could serve as reference.
TsumugiYes, thank you. It was insightful.
HomareTomorrow will be Hisoka-kun’s turn, right… I feel like you will learn a lot from him who’s radically different from me.
