IzumiHuh? There isn't any spare toilet paper.
ManagerHeave ho, heave ho....
IzumiManager, where's the spare toilet paper?
ManagerAh! Sorry, I haven't bought it yet!
IzumiAre you still organizing the props with your friend?
ManagerI'm organizing the video data right now....
IzumiI'll go buy it, then. Do we need to buy anything else?
ManagerIf that so, we need tissues, packing tape, permanent markers, clear files, notebooks, curtains, brooms and then——.
IzumiWe don't have them here!?
ManagerI don't have the time to buy them...
CitronWhat's wrong, Director? You look like a police car rushing to gunshots[1].
IzumiIt's a dying duck in a thunderstorm! You make it sound brutal in an instant!
That's right! Citron-kun, can you help me shopping if you're free?
CitronOh, of course! Shopping with Director is nice!
IzumiThank goodness. I'm going then, Manager.
ManagerBe care~ful.
IzumiI think we've bought all the stationery.
CitronLet me carry the baggage.
IzumiThanks.
CitronWalk on this side, Director.
Izumi(Citron-kun is somewhat a gentleman, huh, he's letting me walk on the sideway.)
Citron——.
IzumiCitron-kun? What's wrong?
CitronSsh.
Izumi??
Citron....
Izumi....Citron-kun?
CitronIt's nothing. Next is the drug store, yes?
IzumiY-yeah.
(What's wrong with him?)
CitronAfter you, Director.
IzumiThanks.
(I'm not used to this kind of "Ladies First" treatment, so it makes me a little bit nervous.)
You're good at escorting, Citron-kun.
CitronIt's only natural for me to do such things since I'm walking with a nice lady like Director.
Izumi(He's also good at flattery... I feel like I discovered Citron-kun's new ability.)
Citron——.
IzumiCitron-kun?
CitronCome here——!
Izumi!?
Why, why are we runnning all of sudden?
CitronBe quiet.
Izumi——.
(He's looking at the street...?)
CitronThey're even chasing me here...
IzumiEh?
Citron....I may be a bother to the theatre.
IzumiWhat do you mean?
CitronActually, I didn't come here to study abroad. I ran away from my country.
IzumiWhat!?
CitronIf the pursuers find me, they will bring me back to my country.
Izumi...You're not joking, aren't you?
CitronI'm not. It may be better for me to not stay at the theatre.
IzumiDon't say that. Citron-kun is a member of this theatre. Everyone will be troubled if you're not here.
You're not being chased because you did bad things, right?
CitronNo. I'm nothing but an eyesore to them.
IzumiSo you did nothing wrong, right? I'll cooperate with you so that you won't get found out.
Citron....Why would you say such a thing?
IzumiIt's because everyone absolutely has to do their best for the performance.
I know that Citron-kun has been trying hard to improve your pronunciation and intonation. And your acting has gotten better and better.
I'm happy to see you having so much fun practising more than anything.
And thanks to Citron-kun who always livens up the mood, it has a good impact on everyone.
It's not just me, see, I think everyone also wants to keep performing together with Citron-kun.
Citron......——.
IzumiHuh? What did you say?
CitronI said, "Thanks."
IzumiCitron-kun is an important member of the theatre, so of course I have to do this much.
CitronI'll believe in Director.
——.
Izumi!!
What are you doing, Citron-kun!?
CitronKissing the back of your hand is a form of our allegiance. It's a common thing in my country.
IzumiI, I see.
(It's not a common thing in this country, though...)
(But he looked like a real prince just now, so I'm getting a little bit nervous. And there is something refined about him too; just who in the world are you, Citron-kun?)

Notes

  1. The original phrase is ハトが豆鉄砲 (hato ga mamedeppou) which means a dying duck in a thunderstorm. It's usually used to say that you look dumbfounded or hopeless. Citron mispronounces it as パトカーが鉄砲くらった (Patouka ga teppou kuratta).

IzumiHuh? We’re out of toilet paper.
ManagerHeave-ho, heave-ho....
IzumiManager, do we have any more toilet paper lying around somewhere?
ManagerAh, I’m sorry! I forgot I needed to buy more!
IzumiAre you organizing the costumes and props again?
ManagerRight now I’m sorting out videos and photographs...
IzumiThen I’ll go buy it. Do we need anything else?
ManagerOh, then, could you get tissue paper and tape and markers and folders and notebooks and curtains and a broom, as well as—.
IzumiThat much!?
ManagerI can never find the time to go shopping...
CitronDirector, is something wrong? You look like you were taken by a bomb[1]!
IzumiTaken by surprise! You make it sound too violent!
That’s right! Citron-kun, if you have the time, do you mind helping me out with the shopping?
CitronOh, of course! A shopping date with Director sounds good!
IzumiThank goodness. Well then, Manager, I’ll see you later.
ManagerThanks for taking care of everything~.
IzumiI guess that’s all the stationery.
CitronI’ll hold it.
IzumiThank you.
CitronDirector, you walk on this side.
Izumi(He’s walking by the curb—Citron-kun is a gentleman.)
Citron——.
IzumiCitron-kun? Is something wrong?
CitronShh.
Izumi??
Citron....
Izumi...Citron-kun?
CitronIt’s nothing. Next is the drugstore.
IzumiY-yeah.
(I wonder what’s wrong?)
CitronDirector, please go first.
IzumiThank you.
(I’m not too used to “ladies first” treatment—my heart’s beating a little fast.)
Citron-kun, you’re good at escorting.
CitronOh, it just comes naturally when I’m walking with a lovely lady like Director.
Izumi(He knows how to flatter, too... I feel like I’ve discovered a new skill of Citron-kun’s.)
Citron——.
IzumiCitron-kun?
CitronThis way—!
Izumi!?
IzumiWh-what’s going on, all of a sudden?
CitronQuiet.
Izumi——.
(He’s paying attention to the street...?)
CitronThe pursuers have already come this far...
IzumiHuh?
Citron...I might cause this troupe trouble.
IzumiWhat do you mean?
CitronTruth be told, I didn’t come here to study abroad. I fled my country.
IzumiEh!?
CitronIf I’m found, I’ll be taken back.
Izumi...You’re not joking around, right?
CitronI don’t lie. It might be better for me to leave the troupe.
IzumiThat can’t be true. You’re a member of this troupe, Citron-kun; if you disappear, we’ll all be troubled.
They’re not after you because you did something bad, right?
CitronI haven’t done anything. I’m simply in their way—an eyesore to them.
IzumiThen there’s no problem. I’ll help you hide, Citron-kun, and make sure they don’t find you.
Citron...Why would you go so far for me?
IzumiBecause I need every single one of you to stand on stage together for the performance.
Citron-kun, I know that you’re working really hard on your articulation and intonation. Your acting keeps getting better and better.
But most importantly, I love seeing how happy you are during practice.
Plus, Citron-kun, you lighten up the air, and influence everyone around you in a good way.
I’m not the only one who feels this way; I’m sure everyone else wants to keep working with you as well.
Citron...—.
IzumiEh? What did you say?
CitronThank you, is what I said.
IzumiOf course. You’re a precious troupe member, Citron-kun.
CitronI’ll believe in you and follow you, Director.
——.
Izumi!!
Citron-kun, what was that!?
CitronIt’s a kiss of loyalty on the back of the hand. This is normal back in my country.
IzumiI-is that so.
(It’s not normal in this one...)
(But he seemed like a real prince; it made my heart flutter a little. Citron-kun is somehow pretty refined, too; I wonder who he really is.)

Notes

  1. What he means to say is “鳩が豆鉄砲を食ったよう,” “like a pigeon that has just been hit by a peashooter”—aka “you look surprised,” but what he says is “like a police car has just been hit by a bullet”
