Masumi
(Today is… the wedding ceremony for the Director and me…)
(Why am I not in white tuxedo? I should change soon otherwise–)
Izumi
MasumiWait—I’ll change soon so don’t go there–
Unknown Man
Masumi(It’s a lie. It should be me standing next to you.
Hey, if you’re not going to look at me, then for what sake I…)

–Ugh
Ha, ha…
Tsuzuru
Alright, I think this is it.
The rest will be, around here…
Masumi
Tsuzuru…Masumi, are you sure you’re not just feeling unwell?
Masumi…I’m fine.
TsuzuruBut, you’ve been hiding under the futon since morning.
MasumiI’m fine.
Tsuzuru…Really.
Ah, right.
Hey, is there anything you would like to request from this performance.
Masumi
TsuzuruMaybe you want to add some elements other than the magician theme.
…what kind of elements, for example?
TsuzuruFor example, some battle elements, love elements.
MasumiLove…
What’s love for you, Tsuzuru?
TsuzuruEh?
What is it, so suddenly.
MasumiSakuya told me everyone has different forms and perception of love, so I want to hear it from everyone else.
TsuzuruAbout that, don’t tell me Director is involved…
Masumi?
TsuzuruNevermind, it’s nothing.
No matter how you look at it, love is… a very abstract and difficult thing to describe.
From the beginning, I also don’t have much experience with love…
MasumiSo you’re only a veteran when it’s in writing.
TsuzuruOnly in writing…! That’s rude!
I mean in this troupe we don’t really write stories about pure love…
Ah, there’s Michael’s love during “Sympathy for the Angel”.
MasumiHave you ever fallen in love like that?
TsuzuruI’ll give no comment for that.
But, I watched a lot of love related movies before I started writing that script to get some input.
Considering the beautiful, ephemeral world of Angels, I thought it would be good to match it with the theme of love and tragedy.
MasumiLove tragedy…
Michael’s loved one ended up with someone other than him too.
TsuzuruToo?
Masumi
Going ahead, Director might end up belonging to someone else, it’s painful to think about a future where the two of us won’t be together.
My chest hurts, and I don’t know what to do.
How is it that Michael, even after knowing that his loved one chose someone else, was able to help her without wishing for anything else?
TsuzuruThat… That’s because Michael loves her isn’t it.
Masumi
TsuzuruMasumi, anything happened between you and Director?
Masumi…I saw a dream where Director was getting married to someone else.
If that happened in reality, I won’t be able to endure it, maybe I’ll die.
TsuzuruOi oi.
Director getting married to some other guy…
Well, it’s true that it’s not something that’s entirely impossible.
If that really happened, there will be a lot of stories when that time comes.
MasumiWhat do you mean?
TsuzuruThe love of my life doesn’t reciprocate my feelings…
There are a lot of stories like that out there.
I’m pretty sure, it’s something that a lot of people actually experience, and in the end they’re left as stories, aren’t they.
Painful things might happen, it becomes experience that shapes people…
I can say that by looking at past experiences and I’m pretty sure it’s not only me who feels that way…
That’s why when the time comes that you have to experience sorrowful things, in the end it will become something that supports you and your feelings.
That is, one word I can give as a scriptwriter.
A scriptwriter I admired told me that before.
Masumi
TsuzuruThen… About the answer earlier—
Take note, it’s not only applicable to your romantic love, I’m saying it from the perspective of a story writer.
For me, even for love that’s not rewarded, it’s still a beautiful thing and that’s why I wrote that play for the Angels.
As long as Masumi-kun’s concerned, no matter which direction your love ends up, I think it will be the same.
But, well, you haven’t given up at all, haven’t you?
MasumiOf course.
TsuzuruUnlike Michael, your future hasn’t been decided.
Masumi…I’ve decided on a request.
TsuzuruFor the script?
MasumiYeah. I would like the setting to be of continued first love.
TsuzuruI see.
You want to do it to project your love for Director through your partner in this play.
MasumiAbout that… His first love, make it that he will lose her along the way.
TsuzuruEh?
Are you sure you want this kind of development?
MasumiYeah.

Masumi...
(Today is... the day of me and the Director's wedding ceremony...)
——.
(Why aren't I wearing a white tuxedo? I have to hurry and change——)
*wedding bells ringing*
Izumi...
Masumi(Wait——I'm gonna change right now, and I'll be right there——)
Unknown Man...
Masumi(No way. I'm the one who's supposed to be standing by her side.)
(Hey, if you're not going to only look at me, then for what reason am I...)
——h.
*heavy breathing*
...
*keys clacking*
Tsuzuru...
... 'K, that's about it.
All that's left is to do something about this part...
Masumi...
Tsuzuru... Masumi, you're not lying and are actually feeling sick, right?
Masumi... I'm fine.
TsuzuruSo you say, but you've been stuck in your futon all morning.
MasumiI'm fine.
Tsuzuru... Really now.
Ah, right. Do you have any requests for the script?
Masumi...
TsuzuruLike an element outside of magicians that you'd like to add.
Masumi... By element, like what kind?
TsuzuruLike the element of battle or an element of romantic love.
MasumiRomantic love...
In your opinion, what is love?
TsuzuruHuh?
W-What's with you, all of a sudden.
MasumiSakuya told me that each person has their own forms of love, so I should ask everyone else.
TsuzuruIs that connected to the Director...?
Masumi?
TsuzuruNo, it's nothing.
Even if you ask me what love is... That question is so abstract, it's hard to answer. In the first place, I don't exactly have a lot of experience with romantic relationships...
MasumiEven if that's the case, if we're just talking about writing, then you're a veteran.
Tsuzuru"Just talking about writing"...! That's rude!
Besides, while being in this theater troupe, I haven't written many romance stories... Ah, but in "Sympathy for the Angel," there was Michael's love.
MasumiHave you experienced a love like his?
TsuzuruI'm opting for a "no comment" there.
But at the time, I watched a lot of romance movies before I wrote the script and used those as a reference.
I thought that a tragic love would match the theme of the beautiful, ephemeral worldview of the angels.
MasumiA tragic love... Michael, too, had to experience the person he liked getting married to someone else.
Tsuzuru"Too"?
Masumi...
Just thinking about the possibility that the Director might become someone else's or that we might not be able to be together in the future is painful.
My chest feels pained, and I don't know what to do anymore.
Why did Michael want to save her even after she got married to someone else?
TsuzuruThat's... That's because that was Michael's love.
Masumi...
TsuzuruMasumi, did something happen between you and the Director?
Masumi... I had a dream that the Director was getting married to someone else. If something like that happened, I probably wouldn't be able to handle it and I'd die.
TsuzuruHey, now.
The Director getting married to someone else, huh... Well, true, it's not impossible to imagine.
Stories are probably there for moments like that.
MasumiWhat do you mean?
TsuzuruYou poured a lifetime's worth of love into them, but it remained unrequited... There are tons of stories like that.
I'm sure that precisely because so many people experience it for themselves in real life, they leave that experience behind as stories.
Like maybe they want to have some experience beforehand, just in case something they find painful ends up happening...
And so, if you read the stories they left behind, you're able to realize that you're not the only one who experienced those feelings...
It becomes something that supports your emotions when something sorrowful happens to yourself.
I think that's one of the roles that stories play in our lives. A playwright that I look up to once said something like that in the past.
Masumi...
TsuzuruUm... So, about my answer to your previous question——.
By the way, this isn't just about your romantic love, but also about my point of view as a writer.
For me, even if it's an unrequited love, I think that's beautiful, and I wrote the "Angel" script with that in mind.
I think the same of your absolutely straightforward and devoted love, Masumi.
But, well, you still haven't given up, right?
MasumiOf course not.
TsuzuruUnlike Michael, your future still hasn't been decided.
Masumi... I decided on my request.
TsuzuruFor this script?
MasumiYeah. A setting where I'm single-mindedly holding onto feelings of my first love would be good.
TsuzuruI see. You're going to perform and project your love for the Director onto your partner in the performance.
MasumiAnd then... make it so that I lose that person that was my first love.
TsuzuruHuh?
Are you sure you want to lose them?
MasumiYeah.
