Young Actor BSame here.
Young Actor CExcuse my interruption.
StaffWhen we call your name, please perform the lines you were assigned beforehand.
First—Sumeragi Tenma-san, please.
TenmaYes.
KumonTenma-san should be back soon, right?
KazunariI brought some party crackers!
MisumiLots of triangles~!
YukiBut we don’t even know if he got the role yet.
MukuTenma-kun will definitely be fine.
IzumiYeah....
Tenma...I’m home.
KazunariHe’s back~!
IgawaThen I’ll be taking my leave.
TenmaYeah. Thanks.
IgawaThank you.
MukuWelcome back, Tenma-kun!
KumonTenma-san, welcome back!
TenmaWhy is everyone here?
KazunariWe were all waiting for you together, Tenten.
YukiYou’re looking kind of upbeat. How boring.
TenmaWhat do you mean by that.
IzumiDo you know the audition results?
TenmaYeah. They were announced on the spot.
IzumiThen—.
TenmaThey chose another actor for the main cast.
KumonEeh!?
KazunariWait, so that means you weren’t accepted...!?
MukuN-no....
Tenma...Phew. I’m gonna go change.
Yuki...I didn’t think he’d be rejected.
MisumiIs Tenma okay~? We couldn’t use the triangles.
IzumiHe looked bright, so I thought he got it....
MukuShould we leave him alone for now?
Izumi(I thought Tenma-kun would be in shock because he’d been so enthusiastic about the opportunity, but...)
(He didn’t really look like that either... I wonder what it is.)
Tenma....
IzumiTenma-kun?
Tenma——.
Director.
IzumiI had a hunch you’d be here.
TenmaSit down.
IzumiYeah.
You were reading Summer Troupe’s next script?
TenmaYeah. I need to focus on this from here on out.
They were all worried that I’d be feeling down, right?
IzumiYup. Everyone assumed that you were accepted, after all.
TenmaIt’s true—I was in shock over being rejected, but the results made sense to me. That’s why I feel strangely satisfied.
IzumiDid you make a mistake or something?
TenmaNo, I performed the same as during practice.
IzumiThen why...?
TenmaAll five of us had our audition together.
The actor who was chosen was two years older than me, and the moment I saw his acting, I knew how the results would turn out.
He built depth to his role, and that set him apart from the rest of us. I saw the character’s background and life emerge from an A4-sized paper script.
My role-building was incredibly shallow. I don’t have that dignity or depth. It’s frustrating, but I don’t think I can leave such an incredible impression yet.
Director Shirasawa said it to me too: “You’re not ready for this role.”
I had a nagging feeling that I was trying to pull it off with technique.
Trying to manage with superficial tricks—that’s proof that I wasn’t properly facing my role.
My goal was simply to star in Director Shirasawa’s movie; I had forgotten what was really important. He saw right through me.
He said, “Next time, show me a different performance of yours.”
IzumiI see....
TenmaMy acting still needs a lot of work. But that means I can aim that much higher.
If I get another chance, then I’ll definitely show Director Shirasawa a satisfying performance.
And I’ll surpass my dad. Even if it’s impossible for me now, one day, for sure—.
IzumiYou’re on fire.
TenmaYeah. The next step towards that goal is Summer Troupe’s Fourth Performance.
Izumi(Tenma-kun is really looking to his future. He’s aiming for a far higher goal than now.)
(He’s going to become an even more amazing actor. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of performance he’ll show me then.)
